Thought it would be beneficial to start this thread for owners and/or operators of 270 Sundecks. I believe the 270 Sundeck was first introduced in 2003 with production continuing through year 2007. There were a few enhancements and refinements made to this model over the years. I would expect there to be strong following for this versatile yet sporty deck boat. If you have any questions that you would like answered, please post them here. We can all learn a thing or two from each other.

I have a 2005 270 SD and I love it. It is pretty much the same as the 240 SUNDECK just bigger. One of the things I like about this boat is that is has a small berth on the starboard side in front of the helm. The kids love to hang out in there to play or get away from wind or cold. The one problem we had this past summer wasn't really the boat, but the engine. Our 6.2L died. The mechanic still doesn't know what happened. We repowered with a 2012 Mercruiser 383 Stroker. The 2nd half of the summer was problem free.

I'm not familiar with the Mercruiser 383 Stroker. How does it compare with a 6.2L Mercruiser engine?

Adam,
The 383 MAG Stroker is a Mercruiser factory re-manufactured engine. It is 383CID / 6.3L Vs. 377CID / 6.2L I believe it has slightly more HP at the propshaft (325HP vs. 320HP) and a little more torque. An advantage to buying the re-manufactured engine vs. a new 6.2L is that all brand new engines must have the catalyst by law which makes it more expensive. The re-manufactured engine is essentially a new engine, but not technically because the block is not brand new. All other parts on the engine are brand new and it comes with a 3 year warranty from Mercruiser.

Does anybody know where the factory stereo amp is? I've looked everywhere and I cant find it. Tried following the wires from the back of the head unit, but loose track of them between the bathroom and the rear lounge. I know the boat has one because I had issues with the wire terminal at the fuse block (for the amp) coming loose and taking out the music. Thanks in advance!

I think it's in the side to the right of the steering wheel.

There is, what I believe may be the amp,
Behind the instrument panel on the starboard side. You can access it through the berth. Remove the cushioned panels by popping off the covers to the screws. I found it when I needed to replace the wired remote. The cables leave the head vanity, go through the ski locker all the way around, then through a narrow gap between the helm floor and berth, then up to the amp. Hope this helps.

Hello 270 owners. I have the 2003 version of the boat and love it. I have lurked on this forum for a while and have learned a lot since buying the boat a couple years ago. The 270 has been great so far. My issue is the water system. Water flows to all of the sprayers, initially when you depress the handle water flows with good pressure. This only lasts for about one or two seconds before becoming a trickle with very little pressure. If you stop and repeat the same thing happens, solid water pressure for a couple seconds then back to a trickle. Symptom is the same on all sprayers throughout the boat. I have taken individual sprayers apart to clear any debris with no positive result. I assume the problem is at the water pump and was wondering if this is something I can handle myself or may need help with. I am not the most mechanically inclined fellow so thought I would ask for some advice before tearing into the boat later this spring. Also its nice to talk a little boating while I wait for April to get her wet again. Thanks in advance and Happy Boating.

Mike,
I had the same exact problem as you the first year we bought the boat (used). I found the solution right here on Club Sea Ray. Someone was discussing a different model boat, but the symptoms were the same.
The screen/filter that is connected to the fresh water pump is clogged. On our boat I found it by going through the head vanity. You need to remove the panel in the back of the vanity via screws. Reach in and you will see the small pump. You need to disconnect the hose attched to the pump. It should be a twist off, I think it was like a "quick disconnect" type. The screen will be inside there. Mine had about 1/8" of crap. Rinse/clean it off, put it back, reconnect. Hope you're not too big. It was tough manuvering the body to fit and work in that space.
Good luck.

Thank you very much Kingsfr. I really appreciate the help. As soon as the temperature allows I will try to fix it, and I will report back here. Thanks again.

Proud owner of a 2003 270 Sundeck. Love the boat! Added a swim platform, which I think is the best money I have spent on a boat. Would like to add a wake-board tower without giving up the factory top and camper enclosure. What have some of you done to your Sundeck to add to your boating pleasure?

Do you have any pictures of the swim platform? I have heard it is like adding a room to your home. Would love to see how it looks.

To add to our boating pleasure we have learned a variety of small things that add to the overall enjoyment of the day. The bow filler cushions have been great for us. The girls all like to hang out up front with the cushions in place and sun bathe.
I purchased a radio transmitter for the iPod (the 2003 model does not have a iPod plug in), when rafting up the two boats on either side of us can tune to the same radio station and we can "share" music. We also always carry a variety of inflatables for the kids to play on or travel to shore on for kid adventures. The storage on the 270 is something we very much appreciate.

I have some pictures of the platform, and will post them this weekend, with the help of my son if I goof up! Thanks for the tips. I like the ipod idea. There really is a ton of room for storage in the 270. We also like to use the right side of the sink for ice and drinks ,and like its built in drain.

I purchased bow filler cushions from MM last summer. Since they're no longer stock items, the cushions with their supports were $1000. They do however complement the boat and the wife and kids seem to enjoy them.

Currently shopping for a 270 Sundeck. Probably will be 02/03/04 due to budget. Hope to join this crowd soon.

Thank you so much for your help. With your help I cleared out the gunk and the pump now works!!

However that led me to the discovery of a hole in the pullout hose connected to my sprayer at the bow of the boat. I believe the part number for the hose may be 1671254 after some Internet research. However finding where to but one has proved futile for me. Any help on where I could find that hose from anyone out there? I really appreciate it.

thanks

Does anyone use Trailering Clips and are they really necessary for helping to keep the outdrive tilted so there is less strain placed on the hydraulic system? I'm curious to know if Sea Ray recommends that boaters use them during trailering.

Hi, I have a 2003 270 Sundeck 8.2 496 and need to change the sea water pump....my mechanic says the engine needs to be pulled, which I have trouble believing. Has anyone had to change out their pump yet....how was it done.......

I use them for long hauls (over an hour on the open road) If you had a slow leak that you didn't know about, or a seal/hose failure, the leak would let the outdrive return to running position, and drag on the road. Asphalt and lower units don't mix well. Some people say the bouncing is hard on them, but we only have smooth roads in these parts :)

I use them all the time - when trailering and when in dry storage - our dry storage wants the outdrive stored in the up position. I figure they can't hurt and are quick and easy to snap one when I put the boat away.
