Hi All -
I've been having some intermittent clunking on my stbd engine/drive for the past couple of seasons, but it seems to be getting worse and want to be able to get it fixed before I end up with potentially a full failure.

The engine seems to be shifting into gear just fine, (as I can cruise out of the marina without issue, even on just that engine) however when I go to give it some throttle, I hear a slight clunk coming from the transom. Enough to where it shakes the boat a bit and turns heads. This only usually happens the first time out for the day. I have a hard time reproducing the issue after it happens once.. which makes for explaining this to a mechanic rather difficult as they can never replicate the concern. The boat gets onto plane just fine and runs great afterwards. Shifting gears is never an issue.

I just had the gear lube replaced in both drives with HP merc gear lube.

Engine specs: 2005 4.3 mercruiser MPI with a Brovo III outdrive. 670 hrs.

Wondering if anyone has experienced this before? I realize it can be a multitude of things, but just wondering if anyone has additional insight. Normally I read up on clunking when shifting or it not engaging properly, but this seems pretty unique as it does seem to shift just fine in both fwd/reverse. I only see the issue after some throttle.

Have the U joints inspected. Did your mechanic pull the out drive?
