58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

I am changing my salon tv out for a smart tv. Is this a Bose surround sound connecter?View attachment 140230
Definitely not Bose. I just ripped mine out and no VGA connections and my boat is a 2000. I think that's from the old tracvision possibly or the Glomax connection.(?)

ENGINE ROOM CLUTTER

I bet our engine rooms would be much easier to navigate if we had the newer MAN I6-850s or similar. Our new-to-us MAN man told me yesterday he thought some of these 550s/58s were built with I6s, although since he's maybe more of an engine guy than a boat guy I wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking of a different boat model.

And South Bay strainers, instead of internal sea strainers, would probably open op the forward end a bit, too. I might investigate switching to these anyway... if I ever get to the point where I don't already have something else on the list to fix.

The R6's were offered as an option on the 52's.

The 58 2005+ was only available with the MAN 900's.

That's what I would have thought Maybe he was thinking of the newer post-2013 45s (?) or 59s or some such.

He guessed it'd only cost about $150K (for the engines) to repower to I6s, minus whatever sell-off of the 900s could bring. Uh, huh. I'll get right on that.

Has anyone tried to replace there MAN mmds displays with a veratron system such as the one attached. I would like to replace mine instead of having 16 year old technology repaired as the screens have become unreadable.

Ours were repaired -- both MMDS boards and CLC 6.3 displays -- during our major refit right after we bought the boat in 2021. Displays look good.

Just the other day, our new MAN man was here and during that visit he was inside an MMDS box -- and he mentioned it looks like our software version has been updated from the original. No further info... but maybe it's not really 16-year-old technology throughout.

I'd think it'd be a bear to set up the 4 separate normal pages and then the 6 separate service pages on a non-native (?) display device.

That is the part that concerns me but if I’m not mistaken a mechanic with the appropriate software can get that info from the engines and from experience most of the information on those pages are technical in nature and used by mechanics. As long as I receive the basic information such a hours, rpm, temps, pressures, and alarms etc.. I would be ok with not having all that information.

The repair is pretty straight forward if you use SeaTronics in Pampano. They'll replace batteries and upgrade the screens, really nice folks & helpful

1800 each as opposed to new colored displays for about 1200 each

In my case, my time is more valuable... so doing all the programming is a big turn-off. And I want to be able to see all the service pages myself, too, without needing a MAN tech and his computer to show me factoids.

Just my thoughts...

The CLC 6.2 display are color, too.

I’m not 100% sure that I can’t get the service pages that’s why I was inquiring.

Yep, got it. I didn't really mean you couldn't get them; just thinking it'd probably be a boatload of programming to make all that data available on a Veratron (or other non-MAN) system.

The @ttmott thread about improving the systems monitor seems to suggest (at least to me) that you need to program every single thing you want to see in generically-capable displays.

Just seems to me the repair would be easier/faster and at least for me, likely more useful, than a non-MAN replacement.

On the 58 I think the system monitor is different than the 52. The system monitor on the 58 does not provide engine data as it appears to do in ttmotts post and on the 58 the engines ecm provide the data to the mmds displays and not the systems monitor. I’ll reach out to Lauderdale compass and speak with Ariel he should be able to provide some insight. I’ll report back
