All Davit Owners Please Post

I actually have a motor mount that can be used to swivel the motor to more vertical (not the high tech weaver one, but a "cheapy"). With my small outboard it didn't change the dynamics much so I took it off and use it as you see. I'll report back in a year or two and let you know if there were any ill effects from my mounting method.

I have the weaver davits on my 330. The RIB is a 10'6 Mercury Hypalon FG bottom with 8hp Yam 2 stroke. I use the weaver arm on the transom of the dinghy and the pad mount on the front tube. Two weaver stand off bars used to hold it slightly angled back to the boat leaves room to walk the swim platform (step over the bars). I leave the motor on the dinghy. I like the weavers since they are basically at the right level with the transom so when at anchor I can motor up and snap them in and leave the dinghy attached but secure with the dink in the water. Boarding the dinghy while snapped i is stable and easy too and then a quick lift off the weavers and away you go in the dinghy.

I stumbled across your discussion thread and see that you have the same setup as I do. I have the Mercury 330 Ocean and the Weaver Arm also. I'm struggling in how to install it since the Transom of the Ocean 330 is molded into the floor where the bolts are supposed to go.

Any help on how you installed your system would be greatly appreciated.

thx

Re: Weaver Snap Davit Mounting ???

Has anyone had experience mounting Weaver Snap Davits (Quick Connect Plates) to the swim platform of a 340DA???
My dealer advises they must be thru bolted to the swim platform, but I don't see how that's possible with the way the underside of the platform slopes & connects to the hull.
Any Help?:smt014

I can't see what year is your 340. Is your platform bolted on or is it integrated (new models are). As far as I recall, the integrated platforms are a little shorter and sit higher from the water.

If I was to make a choice I don't see any other way of mounting the brackets than bolted thru.

Alex F - Thanks. The 340 is an '04 with the integrated platform. It seems I can thru bolt to the sp, but access from the engine compartment is really tough - maybe my 9 yr old grandson can wedge in there to hold the ratchet for me!

If anyone has mounted anything like this I'd appreciate any advice!

I see now. I had never seen the integrated SP from the engine room, but it sounds like there's a tight access area. Appearantly you would need two people (one in ER and one on the top of SP). From ER I would use long handle rachet or wrench, if you don't have anything that long I would get some kind of stick (boat washing brush handle is a good candidate as it's extendable, this way you can adjust the length) and tape it with electrical or masking tape to the rachet or wrench. If using wrench you can use masking tape on the bottom side to keep the nut in place and use small piece of tape to hold the washer on the top of it as well. Just thinking loud about some ideas that come to my head without seen the actual picture. BTW, my 5yr old son came to the rescue couple of times, so if your son can reach the spot where the bolts will be sticking out from the top of SP don't hesitate to get him involved, it'll be fun for him to be part of the project. Just make sure to give him safety guide on where to step and place his hands and make sure he doesn't trip, etc. May be have some one else to help him in ER while you're on the top of SP.
