Anchoring in Stirling basin is not permitted. You can anchor outside the harbor near the jetty if you like.

I would get a day slip at Townsend Manor before I would anchor by the jetty. Too much boat traffic around there not very safe and definitely tough kayking.

There are moorings in Stirling, but not sure if they are available for rent. You might want to call Mitchel Park dock office. They may be able to give you info on the moorings. Otherwise, no anchoring in Stirling.

Thanks for the info... I saw this about "Pipes cove"... But it looks a little too open.
"Pipes Cove in Greenport is a protected cove to anchor. We anchored on a Saturday when they brought in a barge and had the band Hot Lava play".

Looking at the maps for Greenport see a protected area called "Gull Pond" information on the area to anchor would be appreciated.
    Thanks All

Not sure if anchoring is permitted in Gull Pond. There are private homes with docks, resident moorings and not a lot of space to drop the hook even if it’s permitted You can anchor outside the cove but like most areas from Bug Light down to Sunset Beach there are many boat wakes on a weekend to contend with.

The best place to anchor and use a kayak would be the beach to the North West of Bug light on the inside of bay. There’s 10’ + of water and if you go up into the cove it’s fairly protected from boat wakes. You can kayak to the Orient State Park beach there. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of places to anchor and kayak to the town of Greenport. Maybe consider Mitchell Park Town Marina and Townsend Manor Marina if you want to go to town.

I anchor at Pipes Cove occasionally. It’s a great place if the wind is coming from the north. You wound want to get as north as possible in the cove. I don’t recommend it for the weekends during summer.

I can't even imagine what this place looks like now. WhenI was a kid my dad used to take us to Port of Egypt in Southold to rent a wooden skiff and go fishing. I remember it was mostly farm land back then.
