I have a 1990 39 Express with under 600 hrs on it Great Lakes boat. The Boat is truly in pristine condition. Not like alot of the junk that's out there. It is listed for $42,000. Going by the NADA the price for the boat should be $48,000. Someone looked at the boat and made a offer of $34,000 to the place that was showing the boat. They said according to the BUC book it is only worth $39,000 at the top price range. At the $34,000 price all I see is junk 39 Ray's for sale.

That "junk" is the asking price, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to sell for that. I'm sure no one is offering full ask, at least $5,000 grand less. If you look at sold boats you'll probably see prices all over the place.

It's only worth what someone will pay you for it.

Any product is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

If your boat is priced competitively, then it will bring your asking price or close.

And yes, while selling almost anything, people will make low offers. As the seller you have the ability to politely say "No Thanks".

Damn I love that line, used it for years.

Doug, it’s early, last year this time, I had no intention get another boat, then early May sitting at daughters yacht club said to wife I want another boat. Searched a month. Took deliver on June 6, it’s still way early to settle on first offer.

So I would take it under advisement and let him know you'll think about it but other buyers are available. $39 to $42 isn't all that far apart. Market right now is red hot. Can't even touch a boat these days around me. Had one sold out from under me while the broker was getting some questions answered -- got a sight unseen, full price offer. Another one, guy wasn't even willing to show it as he had three other showings in the next 2 days. Last one, I'm holding out hope, they gave a guy a right of first purchase and won't show it until he see's it this weekend. It's just nuts out there, still.

If it’s as pristine as you say stick to your price, unless some personal reason you need to unload fast. It will sell. See, wether cars, houses, boats, first child, when most people sell they just want it gone and often drop price enuf to get rid of it. Decide how fast you NEED boat gone, then take offers.

Latest update. Had a party looking at the boat. Said they would pay the full asking price after seeing the boat and hearing the Polk Audio stereo. "There are 8 Polk Audio 6x5s with adjustable tweeters in them and 2 =18 inch sub woofers powered by 4,000 watts and a Sony WIFI stereo head unit" The party was really excited about how clean and well maintained the boat was. After two days they called saying the survey would cost $600 dollars and insurance would run around $2,000 a year if there was no survey. They are not paying $600 for a survey. My comment: Oh Okay.

I forgot to mention I owned a custom car and truck shop that built cars and trucks for car shows from the frame up. So attention to detail is in my boats the same as the cars and trucks were detailed.

So they where going to spend $42,000 on a 30 year old boat, but balked at a $600 survey? Yeah, this covid boat buying is going really well.

23 states ending supplemental unemployment starting as early as June 6th.

Gonna hear “...a great big sucking sound...” in this short term hyperinflation market in next couple months.

Sell the damn thing.
