I bought a 1999 SeaRay 560 sedan bridge last year with Cat 3406. Known inoperative port gauges - no response at all. I took apart the connections cleaned, they weren't real bad, reassembled w dielectric grease and they all worked for 5-6 times running. Yesterday I got an "error" message and "EE" on the tach. So this seems to be better than no response at all, but not sure where to look next. IMG_5483.jpeg

Analog gauges all good on the engine. Any thoughts on the next steps to troubleshoot before calling out Cat?

Probably the best place to start is the Sea Ray Owners Manual Supplement. It usually has the guts of these systems laid out, and can get you an idea of at least to start troubleshooting. From there, CAT is great about parts availability.

By Chance did the boat come with a "suitcase" full of manuals? This might contain the manual of what I think CAT called the EMS (Engine Management System). That might be handy if available.

Hopefully some other 3406 guys chime in...

A couple thoughts.

I think these might be networked (don't know which version/flavor) system. As such they likely have what's called a terminating resistor, and a loose or failed terminating resistor would likely produce and error message like you see. Or a loose connection in the connection box that is on engine.

Here's a representative network.

Thank you. I don't have "all" of the manuals in the suitcase. I will look thru what I have. The schematic helps. I have traced out the harness, I found the 9 pin connector, and it has a wire bundle leading up and forward I presume to the helm. There is another wire bundle leading to a large block that may be the 40 pin connector. From that block there are about a dozen connections to sensors on the motor. Looks like a half day to dis-assemble, clean and re-assemble. Will start next weekend and look for the manuals.
