Crabs

Costco sells a container of true blue crab lump meat (I can’t tell you pint, 1/2 quart, whatever) for $27. Makes scrumptious crab cakes, my puts NO filler in. My Pavlovian mouth is watering right now!
Look to see the location of we’re the meat came from, many times it’s from overseas or a blend of meats. You might be surprised

A waterman’s life is a tough hard life. No kid today would follow their grandfathers or uncles into this life.

Well said. My dad tried it for a couple years when I was in Middle school, my mom quit her job to help him full time, I helped on weekends and days off from school. Oystering in the cold weather, crabbing in the warm weather. As a kid I didn't understand it, I look back now and have a ton of respect for him. He also built his own boat converting a wooden deadrise fishing boat into an oyster and crab boat..

I’d like to add this before I go to work.

The Commonwealth has a Small Business program, I’m sure most if not all States have something like it. It’s “Buy Local” Find were the crews bring the catch in, buy from them. Don’t bicker over price, next time they will know or remember you. I always give them more than they ask and I get some nice size crabs or fish.

I did see my kin over the weekend he said fuel was hitting him hard but the taxes on the land, boats, and buildings hit him harder. He owns a large piece of property on Big Island at the mouth of the York River. My grandmother was born there in the main house. That was the early 1900’s

Used to bear hunt in early September on the coast of Maine. We would meet the lobster boats when they bought their catch in a couple times during the week. Prices in stores and restaurants would be $15+/pound. They would ask for $3/pound and we gave them double that and all were very happy!

Price per bushel today $300 for #1’s. Price at the dock $85. If I go out to the Island $45. Knowing what they do and all the work I give them $100. They fuss and try to give me money back, I never take it.

You want good VA/MD Blue crabs you go straight to the boats

Dad, you taught me some things very well!
