DIY Dry Bilge System

Can build a timer control for it for peanuts. Even better, build a switch circuit and install a "Water Bug" in the bilge to turn on / off the pump.

Perhaps precision at the expense of reliability? The beauty of the "2 minutes every 12 hours" type logic is that it doesn't depend on a semi-submerged switch/contact to operate. But the downside is it's running twice a day whether you need it or not. If yer on the hook for a few days or trying to conserve battery I could see this being worthy of consideration.

If you wire it up correctly, set the timer every x hours/minutes then that activates the pumping system, have the water detector inline with the pump power and the pump will only run if there is water detected. With this you can have the system power on every hour and check for water.

Thanks for the great idea. I just ordered the pump, timer, and a strainer (since my larger midship bilge diaphram pump fails if it sucks up any debris like carpet fibers). My ER bilge pump is positioned at the front of the ER while any water accumulates by the transom. Water enters the ER through the vents during heavy rains/wind and the main bilge pump is useless unless there is lots of water (which has happened with a failed water distribution unit).

I plan to have it run only an hour each day early in the morning and discharge into the engine hatch drain elbow. The timer can be placed under the sink where the electrical circuits are already.

So got my new Bilge-B-Dry 4 pump system a few weeks ago and today got around to installing it. Super easy, I got the 4 port system so I can have a pick up in each rudder pocket and my front and rear bilge compartments. I love a dry bilge and while my boat is mostly dry I still fight some water intrusion during the summer months. Install was super easy, decided on a location for the unit that was out of the way yet serviceable. Ran my 4 pickup hoses stealthily throughout the engine room and tapped into my water maker waste line for the exit strategy. Downloaded the app, powered it up and super easy configuration. I have it set to run twice a day for a minute just to get out any residual water that might have gotten in. Let’s see how she performs this upcoming season but so far I am happy.

@ocgrant Question about the Bilge-B-Dry. Does it just run for those 2 minutes that you have scheduled, OR if it senses water while running, it runs till the water is gone?

Just runs as programmed, no auto sense function.

I love this thing. Just need to figure out where to get the power and where to run the discharge hose.

I've had the Bilge-B-Dry for a while but have the remote control thing vs. the timer. I think it also goes off every 12 hours for 2 mins too but not 100% sure. But it gets up the last drops from the bilge when running the a/c... I know ... I'm a bit OCD :) Clearly I'm not the only OCD member here

Well in spite of it's looks (as shipped) the performance of this unit seemed to be pretty great on the bench. I was curious if it would pump with enough pressure/volume to get all of the water out of the lines once the water cleared, and it did.

Checking in for an update on the Neptune dry bilge. After all the rains, my engine bilge has a bunch of freshwater in it. Going to pull the trigger on this product if you say it's working well....

My boat is still high and dry, inside storage at the moment. I fear I won't have any real-world performance feedback until after she's been in the water for a while.

I expect it's going to work just fine based on my bench test...

I removed my timer and installed this Wi-Fi timer/remote RF. Much easier to operate.

I set a schedule for when I’m away and when I’m on the boat I can turn it on from the helm..

Received a call from "Bill" at Neptune today. He was following up on my order to find out what kind of boat I'd be installing the system in. He wanted to ensure there was enough hose for the installation. Nice guy. I asked him how business was going and he said he'd just made a deal to get their product onto boatoutfitters.com. I told him I learned about the product on Clubsearay and that he should advertise on there. Anyway, he said it would ship out today. Thinking about installing it horizontally, right forward of the generator. Will update once I've got it in and working.

Bill is a great guy. He really takes pride in his product.
