Creative? not sure. My yard uses a fork lift. Unless you have it on a trailer I don't see any other way really.

Had both of mine out last year. Used a tractor with a fork lift attachment in place of the bucket. The forks gave enough clearance to lift the engines and clear the transom. The chainfall was attached to the forks with a strap and an engine level cradle was attached to the two lift points on the engine.

I'd post a pic but can no longer get pics to just paste onto posts like they used to.

Plus there are Jib booms available that fit over the forklift forks, giving even more reach.

Years ago on the MA South Shore, used tow trucks with Holms 440 wrecker booms on them to pull engines while boats were against the sea wall. Must have done 20 a year.

You can build something like this but the width will be the issue. That is 12ft wide. Standard lowes wood. Lol stood in the isle at the store planning it out in my head while my wife looked at me like I was crazy. Took about 30 minutes and I said ok I got it let's get the material. Need this and that. She just was like ok.

You will be best with a fork lift. That was my other option. I borrowed one to remove that engine but looked at renting a lift. It was kinda expensive for the time I needed to put it back in so for for 300 bucks I built that.

Hey you wouldn't sell me one of those engines would you? I need a 496mag or 502 for that yellow project boat. 350mag is not fast enough.

Would get a wrecker with a boom or call a crane company. We use a crane/rigging company through work so he gave me a good price, but his book prices for small cranes aren’t that much considering the project cost here. Was very quick and safe

10 years ago, I build my wife a swing using 8X8 posts. When I was trying to figure out how to swap my motors, I was sitting on the front porch looking at that swing she wanted and only used 4 times that I could remember. I put an I bolt ob the bottom side and attached a sling strap to it, them added 3 8x8 block on top and wrapped the sling over top. I then attached a chain fall to the strap and lifted the motors that way. I figured that the chain would break long before the wood.
