I'm starting to fabricate davits for my 320 w/9' 6" west marine dink, i like the idea of the nautley davits and want to make the arms similar. I have purchased the weaver snap davit quik kit and am going to fabricate the bracket to accept the arm (out of stainless) so far not hard, i need to know the thickness and lenghth used on the arms, my platform measures 7" from the waterline at the transom of the boat i'm not sure how long to make the arms so they reach the water to retreive the dink? I plan on using 1 1/2" starboard and forming it to fit the bottom of the dink any thoughts?

"Dom's Dinghy Davits" are the way to go. With his guidence I fabricated a set of these and they are fantastic, look very professional. They make loading and hauling the dink a snap, I can leave the motor on the dink. I was in 3-4 footers for about 3 hrs last summer and the dinghy didn't budge. I have about $275 in the project..........hopefully he will chime in and show you the way. Someone else here built a pair also......Peter? I think.

Do you have pics, details of yours? am very interested - I have a machine/manufacturing facility at my disposal. This could benefit many.

Russ I have a metal shop at my disposal the boys will make the bracket relatively easy some flat stock, solid bar and channel all welded together . all this will slip nicely into the weaver mount and with the starboard pivoting on the end of the channel the weight of the dink coming up will fall into the channel nicely and pin in place if need be for a more secure seating. i think i can chrome stainless steel for a nice finish will post pics as soon as its ready

Russ I used the domain dingy davits dom sent me specs they came out perfect ive been in 6 ft seas they never moved I also leave engine on and everything in tender can't beat it it, cost me around 275 i live in Boston I saw you were going to boat show if you wanted to see mine and copy .

Here are a few pics........ the Starboard chocks have different contours to match the bottom of the dinghy. The dinghy is secured with the two blue lines, I can pull the whole rig up on the swimplatform by myself, couldn't be easier.

Do you have to fabricate the stainless parts or is it something you can buy and do a simple mod to get it to work? Are the other parts cut from starboard? This seems like a good project before spring.

I'm not aware of any vendor that would sell those stainless pieces as you see them, I had mine fabricated. The other pieces are 3/4" Starboard.

John is right, I also made my own davits.

Here are some photo's from my home made davits.

My dinghy is 10ft.

Why doesn't someone sell those........Look great for the cost.......I am trying to modify my hurley system as my swim platform is high and I would like to try to make it easier to load. The system works great, just seeing if I can be creative.

So .... I'm not sure I see how these work. The davits go straight down when unloaded - how does the dinghy actually get loaded at that point? I'm assuming the dinghy slides on somehow. I wish I was in a position to do something like this - will have to wait until I get a bigger boat!

Peter - love the guard dog! (and co-pilot!)

Hmmmmmm.......

Hello,

I also made my "own" Dinghy Davit.
I used the idea from Dom, aldo I used a plastic support system.
The thickness of the plastic is 1 inch, and it's unbreakable and can resist heat and cold.
The rvs 316 receivers are also almost the same concept.
Here are some pics, after the weekend I post pics if they are mounted on the boat.
Cost $100,- total :smt001

Thanks Dom:smt038....

You're welcome Pete!!!!.......

I would also like to make a set of 'Dom's Dinghy Davits'I have the drawings form the previous thread:smt038 Where can you purchase the Starboard material and should I use 3/4 or 1"
