fabricating davits

I pretty much have the same amount of steam coming out of mine. Question for you guys on the Davit topic. I have a guy at my marina who has made a couple of sets similar to this and will make me one for $150. I have been reluctant because I don't know what kind of weight my stock platform will hold. I have a 10.5' rib with a 15hp 4 stroke. Could I mount that on my platform or is that too much weight??

Thanks Jason,

I referred to your "how to post" to get the photos onto the post (thanks again!), but I'm still having no success in getting my iPhone video of the boat running to get published to my youtube account. It refuses to connect saying "Authentication Failed - the username or password entered is incorrect" which I know is not the case.

Any thoughts?
Sorry Jimmy, No help with the iPhone... do not know a thing about it. Glad the video has helped people here. again I do like your set up... Looks very functional!

Are you not doing this so the engine can remain on the tender all the time? If so you should do sea trial with it on

Absolutely, my goal is to have the 9.8 remain on the dinghy always, but one step at a time. That way, I can see if there are any glaring deficiencies in the setup before risking my new 4 stroke. That's the next test. I will also have an assitant to run the camera too so I can provide a video of its deployment and retrieval.

Do you always have that much steam coming out of your exhaust? The Davits look great!

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I've always had that much steam in the early spring - less in the summer heat. My through hull exhaust ports are 5.5" round and have 6 feet of hose before reaching the water lift muffler (mid ship engines) which may have something to do with the steam. If you are ever on the Sea Ray archive site showing previous models, there's a photo of mine used in brochures with two nice steam trails while underway.

$150?? Wow! I should have had him make mine. The aluminum alone was more than $100, the plastic wood $45, having a buddy weld all the aluminum $100 + all the stainless hardware...

With the kind of weight you are dealing with, I'd suggest some support struts similar to the ones for your swim deck plus I'd bolt the end of the "receiver" to the transom.
