Hello,

I apologize if there is a thread out there already for an issue similar to mine. I don't know if it is me and my poor IT skills but I find it difficult to navigate a search.

I own a 2002 SeaRay Sundancer 360

I am having a problem with my Air Conditioner (AC) which stopped working mid summer last year. The unit turns on and the blower works, however, when the AC or Heat goes to turn on, the fuse trips. The fuse trips before any water cycles through and exits the side of the boat.

I have since purchased a new AC/Heat unit, but before installing it, a few dock mates have suggested I replace the 30amp fuse first to ensure it is not the issue, then check my raw water intake pump in the bilge to ensure it has not failed and is pulling too much power, hence, causing the fuse to trip. I am leaning toward the AC units condenser being the culprit but want to be sure.

I am searching for a Carling Switch, 30amp fuse. I have the actual part number and have tried on line with no luck. I live in London, ON, Canada, and Newark Industries was suggested to me but they don't have it.

Has anyone had a similar issue locating a fuse for their SeaRay?? If so, can you please provide direction.

As an aside, I have considered asking someone with a SeaRay of similar year if I could borrow their 30 amp fuse, but I don't want to start mucking with their boat but may have to go this route.

Thanks to everyone.

Fuse? You mean breaker right? There isn't a fuse and the breaker is in the electrical panel. If you actually mean fuse, then that is not a Sea Ray part and why you can't find it. And was added by a PO. Your AC unit should be connected to the AC panel via a breaker most likely 20amp. 30 amp is quite high even a 16K ac unit.

Anyway, it sounds like your compressor is shot and it's not the breaker.

Thank you very much for the reply and you are correct, it is the breaker and not the fuse. I apologize for any confusion I caused. It is a 30amp as i have removed it for the season. I am guessing compressor as well but thought I would ask about the breaker.
Thanks

I 2nd Skybolts comment on the compressor.

For anything electrical (switches, breakers etc), look at Bluesea Systems. They have a huge selection.

Do these AC units have capacitors on them to provide the extra umph to start the compressor? That can be a problem on home units.

Yes all of the marine units also have starting caps. And you bring up a good point, but I haven't seen a bad cap cause the breaker to trip. I have only seen the breaker trip when the compressor is locked.

But I am not a HVAC guy, only think I am ...

UPDATE: Yes, you were correct. Not the breaker and in fact it was the compressor. I switched it out for a new unit a few weeks ago and have had great success. Glad I did it myself for the learning purposes and saving on labour costs. If I can do it, anyone can. I am going to post my experience with the AC unit change out if I can figure out how to do that. (Am I the only one who finds it difficult to post a new thread on this site?)
