Gelcoat color from HIN

I’m trying to find gelcoat color from HIN SERY0496i899

Call Sea Ray support and they will get you the color number and supplier. The HIN alone will not give you the info.
Spectrum Color will be able to match the gelcoat from that info if you are looking to buy some.

I thought they would have the build sheets for the 2000s but who knows - perhaps try a different person. I know they did on my 2003 and 2004 when I called in a while ago. The color will most likely be artic white for a white hull - but they had a couple of variations of that.

Exactly...........! I know Sea Ray has computerized records for all the materials used in their boats. I have no idea what the Customer Service person was looking at but they can look up every component in a boat using the HIN#, and tell you the vendor, the vendor's model number, and that same report has a contact name at the vendor and his phone number. I suspectthat customer service person was shown a desk, a chair and a computer screen and was never told how their system is linked or what a gold mine iof information is available. In these days of Brunswick Micro-Management we all need to remember that Sea Ray builds boats, they don't seem to care about maintaining them or repairing them.

Hello Kevin,

I also have a 2004 340 Sundancer - is Arctic White the correct color for the hull gel coat?

Thanks,
Greg

I’m a 1997. I contacted sea ray and they had my information. They gave me the correct Arctic white color and a Val spar code. Here’s the problem I’m having. I need a gallon. Spectrum will sell me a gallon for approximately $300. My supplier charges me around $60 for plain old white. They won’t tint. I’m not good enough to tint a gallon and I can’t find anyone on this planet who deals with gel coat that can do anything with a Val spar code. My project is now on hold because I can’t bring myself to pay $300.

Greg:

Artic white is correct, however there are two artic whites that Sea Ray used (Valspar and Ashland). IIRC the 2004 340DA was Ashland. I will check my records but you might want to call Sea Ray support to verify for your HIN just to be sure.

I think there are then two Arctic Whites. But as a worse case you can buy touch up paste for like $30. It would be an expensive test, but cheaper than having to buy a quart or gallon with the wrong tint.

Hey all! I’m repairing a 2001 Sea Ray 340DA and don’t know if it’s Ashland or Valspar. Any help would be appreciated. I contacted Sea Ray and they emailed back with Arctic White #WG-MP-1949.

Give that info to Spectrum Gelcoats and they will be able to get you the proper one .

Thanks Kevin, I emailed them with the HIN and never got a response. I’ll call them first thing tomorrow morning!

My guess is that is Valspar - my 2004 340SDA used Ashland and I think around 2003 they changed. Spectrum should be able to tell you for sure with the color code.

I’ll report back for the historical record after I hear back from Specturm.

YES YOU WILL NEED TO CALL THEM but if artic white is your color then if I remember right only differntince is wax or non wax gelcote that color. Both shades are same just different how you spray multiple coats that you finish next day or do all in 1 day if that makes sense to you
good luck
Marty

I got a quart of Ashland Arctic white, but I haven’t opened the package yet. I’m assuming it’s waxed and if not, I have PVA to spray over it. Thanks for the info!

The gelcoat was unwaxed, I was able to build up the finish in a couple of spray coats. I finished the final coat and then sprayed on PVA mold release to cure. The color match is exact.

Hey Kevin,

What was product code of the gelcoat you ordered from Spectrum?

Thanks,

Marek
