Sundancer 320 2002. Made the trip to WI from MI. Friends boat is having a grinding noise when put in gear on the starboard side. Not when at idle but as soon as put in gear. Talked to folks here who thought engine. Replaced distributor cap and all plugs. Still there. Cutlass bearing? Trying to figure out how to post video.

Post the video to you tube and link here.

Does the noise stay or go away at higher RPMs?

Yeah, that does not sound normal. It does not sound like a cutlas bearing. Did you check the transmission fluid level? If OK I would get a marine mechanic to look at that before running it any more. Could possibly be a coupler but sounds like tranny to me.

Sound like a bearing issue in the V drive tranny.

Did you ever figure out what was causing that sound? My boat starting doing the same thing this weekend and was wondering if you found a solution?

Look in your bilge and see if you find broken pices od springs. If so, your damper plate has failed.
