Happy Thanksgiving

Well my thanksgiving went no where near plan. Last weekend when I went to MacRay I walked up two flights of stairs and almost didn’t make it…. Shortness of breath, dizzy. So went to the doctor Wednesday morning at 7:30am by 8:30 doc had me in heart hospital emerg with 171bpm…. AFIB. So I am spending thanksgiving in the hospital….Tomorrow is shocking the heart and artery scope then home. Looks like no big deal …be up and running around in no time. One take away ..get sick after a holiday weekend…. Not before. There is no one here…the lab is closed…so you are just sitting here with a bunch of employees who don’t want to be here either.
My family postponed dinner until Sunday. So something to look forward too :)

Yes thanksgiving dinner is as bad as it looks :(… and no pumpkin pie for you…because it’s not heart friendly… my daughters said they would smuggle me in some salt… good kids :)

Glad it doesn't look serious. My heart attack in June taught me lots of lessons: You don't always get a warning; life is too short for petty shit; asthma can be deadly. And yes, the low sodium meals suck. Hopefully all goes well today.

GOOD LUCK buddy, had a HA and cancer and got thru both, but I swear this boat will kill me.

Dam Blue. Sucks. My house burned down in 2014 on thanksgiving eve in 2014. Displaced and lived in a motel for 10 months. You will get better.
Tell you what I learned. 2 kinds of heart attack, the big one takes you out, the mild that you eat the pills every day. You got the 2nd like me.

Anyone hear from Blue?
Everything is going good... They could not shock the heart back into rhythm....which tells them there has been something wrong for a while... I just never felt it. It was funny ....my buddy asked if I could get a nurse to video tape the shock....so of course I asked....they laughed and said no... after I came to I said did I bounce....they said you sure did....3X...and I said damn and no video?....they said no video....what a waste of a good bounce :).....They are blaming the AFib on Imbruvica a drug I have been taking for 3 years....its like a chemo drug....its side effect is AFIb.... My Oncology doc could have been doing an EKG every 6 months and saw this coming ....so need a jesus meeting with that character.
Mid December I go back in the hospital...they are going to give me a drug over 3 days that messes with the electricity in your heart and try the shock again.
Meanwhile the drugs I am on are helping a lot...I feel really well...back at work....furniture shopping with my wife....which is not recommended....turns out that is very stressful....especially the sticker shock :)... Thanks for the well wishes guys.....doing good

Glad to hear you are better.

I can help with furniture. I was CFO of a furniture chain for a year. On most pieces they have a 500% markup (could be a bit different now, but not much). That is how the business model works. So everything is negotiable.

I got to spend yesterday in the ER. Another asthma attack that my rescue inhaler couldn't resolve. Admiral had to call 911. Shitty day. I hate hospitals. At least it didn't cause another heart attack, so I've got that going for me...

JEZUZ FARKIN KRIST. Y’all scaring me! My biggest problem is shopping for car insurance and deciding whether to have a burger or French bread/soup for dinner.
Y’all need to get better quick. Spring boat work coming fast!
PS trying that new Popeyes Blackened chicken sandwich. And Cajun fries, of course.

I've had AFiB for years. Ablation fixed a lot of it, I assume they ruled that out as an option for you? Since the ablation a drug named Metoprolol has kept it largely under control. You might consider getting an Apple or other brand of smart watch. They can do a mini-EKG and tell you in real time if you're in AFiB, although I can usually feel it. I go back in to AFiB maybe every couple of months but can double up on the Metoprolol and that fixes it. Worst thing is they automatically put you on blood thinners, sucks to nearly bleed out from a paper cut.

Did they rule out a heart ablation? If so why?

For those who don't know, atrial fibrilation, or afib, is an irregular heartbeat caused by the electrical currents running through your heart taking a fucked up path.

I went through the afib rodeo starting in 2019. I had to change my cardiologist from a plumber to an electrician. An ablation is where they shove some itty bitty wires up your femoral arteries in your groin up to your heart and basically create road blocks and add runways for the electrical current to flow through your heart.

The ablation worked for a while, then in October of 21, I went into the hospital to get titrated on dofetlide/Tikosyn.

I have all three a plumber, electrician and the foundation muscle guy. Ablation is the 3rd and last step to get rhythm back. When I go back mid Dec it is for 3 days of Tikosyn then electric shock. They think my electrical issue that didn’t snap out is from my imbruvica and length of Time I have been AFIB. So they think next should be Tikosyn as it messes up electrical so much they think the shock has a better chance of working.

My father had AFIB for 20+ years and lived until almost 92 without a heart issue but was on blood thinners. Apple Watch sounds like a good idea.

I’m a little anti apple right now…. I did buy a kardia though to compare when in the hospital next time to see how accurate it is against a real ekg.

I have the 6-lead Kardia too. It provides great peace of mind when I think I'm feeling something. Is it my imagination or real? Fortunately, the Admiral is an ICU nurse who reads the output tells me all about my hearts rhythms. That piece of hardware will give you a good heads up on what is going on.

A short note on cardioversions.

When in Afib, there is the procedure where two big pads are applied on your chest and back. Then you get whacked with 350 Joules of energy to shock your heart into rhythm.

Buy burn gel.

First time I went through it, 10 hours later it felt like the worst sunburn in my life. Recognized it was a burn of some type. The anodes they placed on my body were initially very cold, but as the procedure was dicked around, i started sweating from nervousness, and got cooked when shocked. Subsequent cardioversions, I started rubbing in burn-gel right away. Made a huge difference.

Too late …already have the pad marks front and back. It took a few hours and the burn itching started

@Blueone I'm just catching up on threads. Sorry to hear your plight but sounds as if you are in good hands with a solid plan. My Admiral is a fellowship trained cardiac anesthesiologist. Reach out if you have any questions or just want to double check what they are telling you.

Best of luck. Merry Christmas.

We’ll I was a little disappointed in not being able to take a video of the shock bounce…. Your admiral have any pull there ?

When my first kid was born, I pulled out a camcorder and tripod.

The delivery doc was like, um ..... you can't press record until after the baby is born. He said if anything goes sideways, they don't want any video evidence. Malpractice and all of that.
