Hayatt in Cambridge MD

I have great luck at Higgins. But I do book ahead of time. I’ve priced put joining the museum - I have friends that stay there. If it was just for the slips, it’s not a deal. But the museum membership addd to it makes it better. But yeah, Higgins is the place. But the secret is out on them and you can’t wait to the last minute. If I were faced with $4 a foot at St Mike’s I’d be going to Herrington, Tilghman, Oxford or Chestertown...

Yeah I think that is the wave of the future, more money more money. The problem with Tilghman is there is nothing to do there it's basically a one weekend night place, Marker 5 is only open F/S/S and not during the week. I like Oxford, Chestertown is meh. Haven Harbor South in RH is nice and next to Watermans.

You would hate the North East then. $4/ft. is cheap compared to Block Island and Montauk.

No, that’s a different animal up there. Understood that Block Island, Newport, etc are far higher. As they say in real estate, location location, location!

That's funny, we're going to Herrington, St. Mikes then Oxford next week. Higgin's isn't an option us since they don't have a pool and we travel with kids.

bingo. We go to St Mike’s before Memorial Day and after Labor Day for just that reason. We will be at Herrington (south) next weekend!

So I can honestly say I will probably not go back there again unless "everyone" else is going there. Had power issues, bad power stanchion and was also very dangerous as nothing was holding the top with the breaker in it on to the bottom part. The food was worse then last year in that they wanted $60 a head for a buffet of seafood and it wasn't all you can eat. There was the same inside for $80 head and wasn't that good either. The drinks at the pool were $13 for an orange crush that wasn't made fresh. Super loud party music going right next to the bar so sitting there wasn't an option. The pool was still amazing so there's that. Had a great slip right on the floating dock so walking Cody was easy. But the jelly fish were so bad my AC was clogging up every hour, complete nightmare. I had to use the dock water to keep the AC going at night. And they charged me 4.67/ft @ 50' boat, I guess I got off easy because my real LOA with the dinghy and all is 54'.

Had a great time at Herrington Harbor North and Oxford, they more then made up for Cambridge and will be going back there instead.

I had friends that went there recently. They mentioned the power issues too. And the fact that the restaurant was buffet. Didn’t most buffets disappear with COVID? Now they are back due to lack of employees. Guess you truly CAN go home again. Glad you had some other good stops!

Sorry to hear this, but I agree with you 100%.

Met @Korkie in Solomons this weekend. Had a ball. We are in Oxford tonight and tomorrow night. Took a dinghy ride all the way up the creek. There is a HUGE power cat up there. Every bit of 80 LOA in my view. No badges on it at all. It sort of looked like this:

Yep, was there last Monday for three days. Had a blast. Hopefully you found Popes for dinner tonight. Capsize tomorrow. Early week is tough for food in Oxford. Yeah big cat for sure.

$4.67/ft yikes. I remember Cambridge as a nice little town worth wandering through for a few days. We are easily amused and don’t need swimming pools so we chose the free wall in front of the municipal building and our favorite food stop was Rock Lobstah for half price peel n eat and buck a shuck with $1.25 PBR’s. LoL

Rock Lobstah is permanently closed. As is Theo's which switched hands to something else not really steak it seems, but not open yet. If your not into swimming pools, then Oxford is a real nice place to go, although they have one that looks over the creek.

We were just at Herrington South, St. Mikes and Oxford last week. Been to all of them many times and Oxford is still one of our favorite mid-bay stops. Although they did stick us over in the boatyard but it was still a good time.

I did not think about the jelly fish and AC. We were on vacation in Whitestone, VA 2 weeks ago and the jelly fish, "nettles" as the locals called them, were bad.

Too bad about the closings. Oxford was nice. The day we left Oxford we came across another looper that ran aground on the shoal out front of a marina there and we hung around for high tide to lift him off to make sure he was ok. All was good.
Memories.

Yeah, people around here also call them Nettles as well. Jelly fish seems to be used more in the north.

I have South Bay strainers on all of the through hulls, so I don't actually need the inside strainers with baskets. Ocean yacht's doesn't put inside strainers on there boats and only use South bay strainers. Even with these the Jelly fish get stuck to the bottom and clog things up, the only saving grace is it's easier to backflush the strainer then to pull and empty the strainer basket. I have the flush tee's installed on all of the through hulls before the inside strainers, makes it easier for winterizing and perfect for back flushing.

We were at Oxford last week as well, M-W then went on to Cambridge. Started off at HH North though. St. Mikes is nice but too hot in the summer months, we go there in the spring and fall mostly. Unless we take the CC down to Foxy's for lunch.

I just got off of the phone with them and they not only raised their rates to $4.67/ft. but they insisted that I give them the width of my swim platform and added that to the length of the boat. So instead of paying for a 46, I now get charged for 50. I guess I am being cheap but that is a lot of money per foot for that place considering the amount of money you spend there in general. so that wanted $750 for three nights. I have paid a lot more then that at other marina's but never here on the Chesapeake. Is it me or is that crazy?
Thats crazy!!!

Orlando - what is there to do at Oxford? I assume you are staying at the SafeHarbor marina..

Yes at Safe Harbor. So it's not very exciting there compared to the Hyatt, but they do have a pool that you can bring your own drinks to that over looks the creek there. There is Capsize dock-bar/restaurant that is walking distance from the marina, good food. There is Docks sunset grille that has music on the weekends and great food. If you have a dinghy it is a great place to dink around in. There is also another restaurant Popes in town (if you want to call it a town) that has great food as well. You can rent bikes from the marina and get to Popes and Dock's that way, could be walked but is just over a mile each way.

The two things I like to do while away is dock bars/restaurants and dink around and possibly a pool to have some drinks in on the dog days of summer. We are not much for main stream site seeing etc. and like to keep it boating activities like dinking etc.

Try the Cambridge Municipal Marina. Walking distance to downtown with a good selection of bars and restaurants.
Any particular likes/dislikes for the Cambridge Municipal Marina? We're thinking of going there this coming weekend.

That's where we are right now. Easy walk to town, but much is closed... possibly for the holiday. Good dock hands, OK fixed docks, we've tripped two different 50A breakers (drawing approx 22A max at the time). 20% off diesel if over a hundred gallons, good deal till 9 Sep.

Edit: it's not particularly well protected from wind, here... and the breakwater doesn't actually attenuate ALL waves from wind or passing wake. Not bad, but not a storm hole.

Edit again: WiFi not great.
