Geico/Boatus stopped covering engines stored outdoors from freeze protection. Got notice this week at renewal time.
Called around, not finding anyone does. But a couple months ago I switched car from Progressive to Hartford. Cut my payment in half. So I called Hartford about boat. Better coverage, better towing, saved $100 a year.
I’m happy.

The owner of my marina, private guy bought it this winter, Chesapeake Marine, is a towing salvage company. He includes unlimited distance, reason, occurrence free towing in our slip fee, so frankly I dont need the boatus towing. Even when i did have the freeze rider last year, the requirements were such that you never need it. Aka, certified mechanic winterized, by end of October, yada yada. So its really a none issue. i still kept my boatus membership cause i like the magazine.

You old guys, iyou need be a $15 member of AARP to get the insurance discount, some on here dont like aarp, to each his own, but i am savings THOUSANDS a year in car and boat insurance since i went with Hartford. All my acquaintances are with them. Ive heard nothing but good things about them. I’m happy.

I make missiles for defense our government. I swear I get work because the engineers call me and ask how to design this for manufacturing…. And engineers have power over purchasing. I love it I have more fun helping them then making the damn parts because they are getting smarter and it helps all of us

I DIY winterization. No heated storage. I have never had a problem. Closed cooling. So worst case I have to change out the heat exchanger.

Designing something that works, and designing for manufacturing are COMPLETELY different skill sets. You need someone that actually builds things to help with the design process and tell the engineers what will work/be efficient. Glad you can help those guys.

I think there are some boat designers that haven't ever been on a boat, let alone maintained one. Meanwhile, I'm glad my son is finally taking an interest in how to fix stuff on the boat! He actually grabbed my tools and a part I had modified out of my hands and insisted I let him install it.

Oh get this! The policy specifically states… i sht you not!… Freeze protection is covered “as long as engine is winterized by a certified marine mechanic in accordance with manufacturer specifications AND boat is stored in a climate controlled indoor facility”.
Well of course you dum farks. JFC! I feel sorry for the kids born today that will have to live with idiots who write this stuff. This is why people buy AR15s and go ballistic.
