Hi guys. I’m changing the impeller drive shaft (bearings blew up in housing) on my 2020 320 sundancer with 6.2 IB’s with 250 hours. I have the impeller in as far as it will go in and it still sticks out of the housing about an 1/8 of an inch. Is this normal? When I was looking for the shaft repair kit two different dealers cross referenced and it was the same impeller so I’m confident it’s the right one.
Read this - it should help http://clubsearay.com/index.php?thr...er-on-newer-style-merc-raw-water-pump.112122/ If your pump has a stainless steel wear plate in the housing then you need the shorter impeller is what I found in the thread mentioned.
Thanks guys. I didn’t get the whole replacement with the plates…just importer and gasket. I compared the two impellers and the new one is actually an 1/8 of an inch narrower. It still stuck up an 1/8” above the housing though? Strange, I wouldn’t think you want it rubbing that much. I will get new plates this fall if I don’t have problems first. They def had some wear marks on them. I wonder if it was changed before and that’s why the bearings blew out? I said 260 hours earlier but I meant to say 160.
You stated the bearing blew up so are you rebuilding the existing pump with new bearings and seals? Do you have a pump with the plates on both sides? Something sounds amiss to me.
I pulled the front of the housing off and changed the shaft, bearings, seals, and impeller. I did not change wear plates. They were scuffed up but usable for now.
