Kayaker not found

Thing I don't understand is he was with other people kayaking with him. Did he go under the water and that was it. With that said being on cold water with no PFD in a kayak shows you a lack of common sense on their part. I do feel sorry for the families loss but stupid decisions kill tons of people on the water every year.

Amen on that. I live on the gulf side of Florida, just south of Sarasota and every year we read in the paper or see the nightly news covering heartbreaking stories and it is very often it involves a member of a family that has come down to enjoy a fun family vacation in the warm waters of Florida. Instead, it turns into a family nightmare.

There are lots of bare rental outfits here and there is little experience or training required to rent. So, you have young people jumping on a jetski that can do 50 mph or better and we all know that when you get beyond about 30mph on the water, things can go South in a hurry. Couple that with the congestion and peoples desire to show-off and a news event about a tragedy is not uncommon.

most around here have PFDs with them and they attach it to the craft. Craft floats off and they have nothing. Games and Fish are cracking down on that practice thru education and warnings. My guess would be the EPIR would be on the kayak and they would still be lost.

Yea, I did sign on but after freezing your boys off and coming back to the family’s with no answers. Then at the end of it all they have no closure. P.D has it worse, they have to do the notification. It’s just not as cut and dry as it’s my job or my freedom to just stop doing it. If you’ve never had a job like this it’s very hard to understand.

You can’t fix stupid.
