Lake Saint Clair Peeps

Hello, considering moving my 340 to Lake St Clair. Buying a house in Lake Orion so any advise on which marinas to look at?
How do you use the boat, and what kind of marina would you prefer? Are amenities more important than cost, or the other way around?

The Clinton River has a few good places, and there are pros and cons to being there. One, even on a windy day you can take a cruise up or down the river, whereas the lake will be a mess. On nicer days, you're spending too much time on the river getting the lake, although some of that time can be prep (either going out or coming back) so it's not a complete waste.

I would definitely look at MacRay. We love it here. It all depends on what you want out of a marina.

Consider where you want to boat and then amenities. No reason to blow 100 gallons of fuel a day being down at JBM if you just hang out at munchies all the time. If you like cruising the channels, consider new Baltimore or fair haven area marinas, even Algonac harbor club.
Belle Maer is a safe harbor marina now and you’ll get free transient days to stay at other locations

Set up a tour at each and walk around and check things out. Can tell a lot about how the harbor master and staff keep a place clean. If cups/glasses, cigarette butts and other garbage are left laying around outside event center and pool area for days probably should pass on that place.

Another thing to consider is your commute, especially if you like to just run out to the boat during a weekday evening. What is the proximity and drive from work vs that from your house? Some places are 15-30 minutes to drive even AFTER you get off the expressway vs others where you're already going to be at the boat.

Another vote for MacRay or Belle Maer. Stay away from the 9 mile marinas. Things are getting hot and crazy I hear there.
What do you mean by that?

I hear from friends up in the 9 mile area, that things have gone bonkers after the new covid boaters came in. At Emerald a shooting, and afire this last weekend.

Thanks for everyone’s input. Struggling to find indoor storage. Any suggestions outside the main marinas?

You are late in that train sir. What size is your boat?

Jus Cruisin I see why you like week day boating. Took today off and we went to Belfour to fuel up. Then went to Cabana Blue for late lunch. The afternoon weather turned out beautiful. It's a totally different lake on weekdays.

Its a 340. Worst case we can store outdoor which is available, we have a fantastic winter cover.

Out to Belle Maer this afternoon cleaning the golf cart cover. Went to hop down on the swim platform of the boat and was surprised. The water has dropped about 6" since Saturday. Hard to believe it's dropped that much so fast.

Couldn’t get into our family island as the water levels dropped to much. One of our last few weekends anchored out on the mouth of the Doty and Sni.

what was the outcome of your visit? Some around MacRay are saying there is a 200 person/boat waiting list, wondering if this is true
You know when you meet someone and you just know….. this isn’t going further then nice to meet you ?…… that was the outcome…… he goes to PIB a lot … I see the big boat all the time

I completely understand, things aren’t what they used to be around this marina, hoping things turn around next season. The boaters in here are awesome tho, friendly and always willing to lend a hand and knowledge. That’s the only reason we stay.

For 2-3 years there was a deep waiting list but not anymore. Maybe it’s because he raised the prices three seasons in a row. Rumor has it that they’re going up again. If that happens he’ll be looking for boats to fill the wells, especially with the economy about to tank.
