Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Found the answer to my own question. Turns out Sea Ray posts prop charts to the owners section of their site. That info includes all the drive outdrive ratios too.

Ratio for the Bravo 3 in 1998 was 2.00:1.

This is an old post but when my outdrive got destroyed I replaced it with a 2.2:1 unit. Mph at same rpms was slightly down but not bad. I sold the boat but was going to up prop pitch some and it should have been fine. So don't hesitate to get a different ratio if that's what you can get a deal on.

New 99 270da owner here with 7.4L MPI and BIII. On top of the many things i'll be doing on the boat over the next few months, i'm replacing the Oil Pressure Switch as i'm fairly certain thats the reason i'm stalling the first 2-3 times i turn the engine over. Runs perfectly fine once its running, but stumbles and stalls the first couple times you start. I have the replacement switch, but for the life of me i cant find it on the port rear side of the motor. I read its on the port side, under the ignition wires, but after 20 minutes of hanging over the motor with my cell phone, and a mirror, i cant see it. Anyone have a diagram with exact location, or a pic? It should be a really easy swap, once i can find the damn thing

Also, anyone replace the rocker switches with ones that are labeled? I see a million companies out there, but figured i'd go with one ya'll recommend. The mounting plate is a bit faded so it would be easier to get new switch covers that are labeled

The sensor is just above where the remote oil filter adapter is mounted to the block. Where the oil filter on a car or truck 454 is located. The one up top on the rear of the engine next to the distributor coil in the below pic is the oil pressure gauge sender.

Thanks Hawk! I'll have to get back in there with a mirror and some heavy lights and see if i can trace the brown wire and find it! I'm assuming those rocker switches are from New Wire Marine? If so, i just ordered some plus the removal tool to see how it goes! They looked the best of the options i found, and matched the form of the originals. Plus i like the blue lights :)

No problem. I doubt that's the reason for your cold stalling though. I'd be looking at your choke for starters. It's easy to check that switch to see if it's bad. Either it's grounded when there isn't enough oil pressure or its not grounded. I forget which. Also look into whether it would cause a starting issue. I think it just sounds the buzzer/alarm on your dash.
I replaced the all the switches and switch covers as well as the push to reset breakers, dimmer switch and ignition switch. I figured it'd be a good time to paint the switch panel too. It was pretty faded.

His signature states he has MPI so no carb or choke. The symptom he describes is characteristic of a bad or dirty IAC valve. Not a lot to go by here but maybe others will chime in. It’s relatively easy to pull the IAC valve and see if the shaft moves on our motors.

Gotcha. I'm reading on an Android, so I can't see signatures. He did say it in his original post though...

Thanks for the input everyone. Correct its an MPI motor so no carb or choke.

Regarding the IAC, in my experience with non marine motors, wouldnt the IAC typically cause an erratic idle as its first sign that its bad or sticky? My idle is rock solid once the motor is running, and right where it should be. Its just the stumble and stall on the first couple of turnovers thats getting me. From what i've read, a Oil Pressure Switch thats going bad, can cause this, as it tells the motor theres no oil pressure, cuts the fuel pump, and the motor stalls.

Either way, both are easy to replace/diagnose, so i'll check both. I'll report back :)

Sure enough, it was most likely the IAC. Replaced it, but also cleaned the connections on the Pressure Switch with electrical contact cleaner, and the motor fired right up and held a steady idle. Shut it down and restarted a couple times and never had a stall. Will see once i'm able to get the boat out on the water this week once these winds die down, but IAC was a legitimate 5 minute job, and 3 of those minutes was spent trying to angle a screwdriver in there for the screws

Wow, very nice! Can you tell us more about the downstairs cabin flooring, the cockpit vinyl cushions and the cockpit flooring? Obviously all done custom for you? Looking very tidy!

Thank you!

I bought it last year with 190 hours .i ve changed all the vinyls with custom brand new,i created a sunbed also in the front .all the external flooring is seadek .the interior is from solid oak wood custom made. i puted also sun panels .i m 15 years in the sea .used to have inflatable boats .this boat is much better even in rough conditions.i made 100 hours this year and i enjoy it very much.
I had only 2 failures .the port side steering pump had an oil leak and had some water leak in the fake floor of the bilge that i m trying to fix right now.

Well done! She's a beauty!

Beautiful boat. I hadn't thought of putting the seadek in the interior.

Hey new to the forum but not new to boats. I have 99 270DA. Does anyone make a eva fllor kit for this boat? I would love to find one I can put down myself thats all cut out. I see them often for other Sea Rays but have yet to find one for the 270 DA

Aqua Marine Decking and Seadek may have a template for your boat. This saves you the whole template creation process. If not you will have to create a mylar template yourself.

Own a 99 270 DA and had the entire cockpit and swim platform done 2 years ago with Seadek. At the time I couldn't find any sites that already had them precut. Ended up going with a local Seadek installer. Came to the slip and took all digital measurements, said the mylar template method is not really used unless you are doing it yourself. LMK if you want any pics of it and I can also give you the installers contact information. I'm sure he still has it on file. Only down side is he/we are located in Michigan, about an hour north of Detroit but I'm sure you couls simply order the kit and have it shipped.
