Marina Etiquette Tips

I start every season with a $100 to each of the dockhands in our marina. Last season they told another boat to stay out of the marina (transient who was actually ahead of me) until they got me safely to the dock. I hadn't even called in, but they saw me coming. Transient came by later jokingly asking who I was. I told him I tip well.
I like this approach, and do the same to the bartenders/wait staff at my tennis club. However, turnover has been so high with COVID that the one I tipped last week has already left. I guess bartending is different.

It works. Last month we went to St. Martin. We tipped the "drink guy" big on the 1st day and he never left us alone. Other guests around us couldn't figure out the attention we received. On another note, MrsRobinson, what club? CCof VA?

I was cruising the site and saw this old thread and couldn’t help myself. I saw a few of my fellow LKN folks had posted. My marina has fuel and pump out the “kids” are always friendly and help a great deal getting in and out of the service slips. I give one of them $40 when we are all done, funny most are young ladies on the docks. I asked one time if they pool their tips and my girl said yes so I don’t feel bad about just giving it to one of them. With COVID they are not supposed to pump gas or poop but they always offer to do it. And BTW if your not tipping your wait staff at restaurants in cash you’re missing the …wait for it… boat. Having two sets of twin girls that have all been in the server industry I was schooled in this so it doesn’t show up on their checks. Cash is king, I always try to keep at least $100 in my wallet. Anyway my .02 on an old thread.

2 sets of twins wow you must go broke during Twinsdays festival, and if you don't know what I mean ask your girls about it (hint Twinsburg Oh)

From that area originally. All family still there. Don’t keep me in dark, what about Twinsburg? It’s not a town, it’s an intersection. 91 82.

I'll say this about dog owners (my brother and sister included).....dog owners never seem to understand that,......NOT everyone loves dogs!, they think everyone loves their dog just as much as they do. So if the dog owner is OK with poop on the dock, HE thinks everyone in the marina is OK with it, that's the way MOST dog owners think.
Quick example: Going to Christmas in New Hampshire at my Brothers (2017). I lived in Plymouth, MA at the time, Sister lives on Cape Cod, she has no license / no car (too many DUIs), wants me to drive an hour and a half round trip, out of my way to take her to NH, OK, no problem, it's Christmas, I'll do it, right? Then, day before, she hits me with, "oh, I'm bringing my dog too" (Sisters dog has a rep for peeing everywhere when it gets excited), I say, no, you're not, I don't want the dog peeing or smelling up my new Cadillac or her claws damaging the leather seats. I told her to get a dog sitter or find her own way to NH. Sis never made it to Christmas dinner. I mean if she wasn't such a drunk and had her own car she would have made it BUT the point is I don't care for dogs and she just doesn't understand that because she loves dogs. To this day my Brother and Sister still say I was wrong to not to pick up my Sister and her dog in my new CTS and drive 3 hours to NH from Cape Cod with a dog that was excited and peeing all over my $60,000 Cadillac! They don't care, after ALL, it's NOT their car getting ruined, LOL.

‘Dockhands’? I’d be happy if the liveaboards cleaned their dogshit off the pier?
You must have slobs in your marina. There are plenty of dogs at mine. I also own one. Poop bag dispensers at the entrance of every "wharf" for those that might forget to bring their own. No problems that I have seen. Way better than in my sub.

I'll do you guys one better, My slip is on the fuel dock at Belmont Bay Marina 10ft from the fuel pump. Needless to say, the view from my boat is gorgeous all summer long.

Awesome! I've seen your beautiful boat there as I've gone by many times. Never knew it was a fellow CSR member.

Thanks for compliment. Other than my family and friends, there aren't too many things that I absolutely love, but this boat is definitely one of the loves of my life. It is a dream come true. I remember seeing Carlton go by in one when I had my 48 and I thought, man, what a boat. Stop by anytime this summer and have a drink. I'm there most of the time.

You're welcome! I love watching the boats go by on the Occoquan from FYC. Lots of eye candy on the river.

I'll definitely keep an eye out as I'm heading by.

They are Great boats, My wife and fell in love as soon as we walked on. It's our vacation home in the summer!!

Hey Everyone, wanted to push the thread back to the dog thing (love that there are CSR members getting together close by each other). We have Daisy picture attached we do our best to not push her into meeting people and she doesn’t spend lot of the time on the boat (weak stomach) but the Queen frequently takes her to the “grass” area at our marina then cleans up appropriately, I’m sorry but it’s a solid 5 minute walk from the boat to the “area” do the dogs really have to poop on the dock? The geese are bad enough. My .02

When we take Teddy to the boat….my daughters dog and she wants us to babysit him for the weekend…. I am shocked how people can be so irresponsible with respect to poop….I am sure it’s the kids walking the dog… but when we don’t have a dog I don’t really notice the problem ….. compared to when I am standing in the grass waiting

My dog is at the dock a lot. However other people let them shit on the dock and pick it up.
However they do not scrub the dock off and rinse.
Nasty in my opinion. It’s tracked all over.

So back to our regularly scheduled program, I’ll throw a shout out to all my LKN brothers and sisters. I would enjoy meeting you guys and having cocktails when it’s just a tad warmer or hanging out on the hook this spring. We are not new to the land side of the lake but are to the waterside. Any insights as to where to overnight are appreciated. Not sure this is the appropriate thread but hate starting new threads.
