A few weeks ago, guy in a 55+ Azimut in Montauk was next to me and told me he was headed back to Lindenhurst through the Moriches (albeit at High Tide). Just curious if anyone who has a ~4ft draft has done it this year and if they did, any chance you can share the route via navionics?

    Thanks!

This is what he shared with me, but it is just a screenshot.

Just did it three weeks ago with a 4' draft on high tide, I also only idle through that whole area.
When we came up to the turn towards the inlet the fog hit so thick I could not see the front of the boat made it through with no problems.
Flir camera and Radar did the trick.
The only spot that gets a little sketchy is right around the red buoy that sea tow put in Hart's cove it gets down to 4' on my depth finder for about 10' but at no time was I kicking up any mud.
It is the same as last year, I see bridge boats going through there all the time.

They just did this a few years ago on the main channel and it filled right back in within one season.
If the channel up though Hart's cove maintains in depth without much sand moving around then why can't they just dredge the channel up though Hart's cove and make it 15' deep channel and close off the main channel, I understand it is 5 mph around the island but we will have 15' all the time.

They don't dredge to 15' because they'd never get ACOE approval for anything deeper than 6' control depth in a local channel. They wouldn't get NYS DEC approval either....and then of course there's the not too small issue of money. Most of the dredging money comes from the Feds. Schumer and Gillibrand could care less about "wealthy" boaters issues. What I'm curious about is how you guys with drafts over 4' get through the Quoque canal. I was advised by Sea Tow that I would hit bottom through there with my 52 so I never tried it. I always went out Moriches Inlet when heading east with the 52 and 58. A few white knuckle moments but it was 1 1/2 hours faster to Montauk or Block that way.

A few moments of pucker factor but all good
Sea tow was there and guided me through. I would not venture to go this way at any time other than high tide.

While that would be amazing and I think we would all welcome it, I doubt it. I had heard environmental challenges are on the top of a long list of why it wont happen... But we can HOPE!

I would have thought the environmental impact of the lower 1.5 hrs burn each way of big diesel boats going the long way would be a big environmental saving to factor in, but what do I know.

Like your thinking but don't think that's the way they evaluate it.
That channel isn't commercial, so i don't see it getting the attention us recreational boaters would like it to get

    Ha!
    You can!
Gotta be at high tide through the bay, so timing important.
I went to westhampton & back twice with no issues (knock on wood) on the inside, but the key was high tide at the coast guard station.
