NC and SC Insurance(s) and Taxes?

Ever try Melvin’s in Elizabethtown? Used to skip school and get lunch there all the time.
Haven’t been back since I was in High School, my father was the reunion President, so yes but a long time ago.

Wow! What is QAC? That cost is nuts. Just over a bridge and it’s >10 times as much for water!

QAC, Queen Annes County. Yes, the water bill also includes sewer which matches the water. So if you use $100 of water the bill is basically $200. My normal bill ~400, and with lawn sprinklers it gets astronomical, like 12-1400 for three months. Thinking of breaking the law and putting in a well for the sprinklers.

Ever heard of a little crossroads town called Kelly? Had a college roommate from Kelly. Did a lot deer hunting there 45 years ago.

I have not, most of my relatives were in White Oak, I do have fond memories of White Lake, I have read it is really built up now.

Yep, been in that area a few times. My parents still live in a bladen county

Or do what I do. East of 95 the ground is all sand. Like Ocean City. You get growth spurts in spring and late fall, summer it goes dormant, stops growing.
Let it go. Hell, from early June to end September I might cut grass once a month. Hey, if god wants my lawn green, let him water it.

Nah, wouldn't move if you paid too, love where I am. For us it's paradise and when the boat is out on the bay it's heaven. I'll deal with green grass and high water bills if that is what it takes.

Didn’t say move, I am across the bridge from you. Maybe the ground is different there. On western shore it’s all sand, can’t get grass to grow at all.

Ah, miss understood. Yeah, it's a sandy clay crazy mix, but grass does grow well in it.

Eastern shore (Delmarva) is all farms. I read in ancient times that was all underwater and good farm land, but the western shore was actually the ocean front hence from 95 corridors it’s all sand. Lots of sand quarries around here. Ground is all sandy, grass is all scrub like in OC. Over here, trying to grow a nice lawn is a losing battle. Had a landscaper tell me if I put down tons of lime (breaks down sand) maybe, just maybe, in 10 years we can grow Kentucky bluegrass.
It’s different.

On the boat tax, I bought my documented boat in Charleston last year and moved it up the New York where I live. The local SC tax man tracked me down to pay an annual property tax on the boat (which I don’t actually owe since the boat was gone and I’m a NY resident).

The calculation of the fee is Market Value * 6% * 0.25080 millage rate. Depending on the value of the boat it can be a considerable annual cost.

Apparently it’s possible to file some paperwork during a sale to avoid the bill, but being from NY the concept of annual personal property tax is alien so it never occurred to me.

The point is, each state has different tax structures so be sure to understand what they are and how they will impact you. NY has our high property, sales, and income taxes, but that’s about it.
