400 db is being dropped off at Mackay Queensland and we will motor it to Sydney...1000 miles

should be some trip

The 400 db has been kept in fresh water but now will be living in salt, is there anything I need to know..engines mercruiser 8.1s

cheers

a big trip

Thanks,

I just don't want to encounter too many of our angry beasts of nature here..

Monster Crocks, Great white sharks,, tiny jelly fish the size of your thumb nail which can kill you and are transperent in the water

then the migrating whales heading north from the pole...

Trip should be around end of May to early june

longest stretch without fuel is around 180 miles

Welcome Ozzie and congratulations on the new boat.

You may want to put up another posting in the Sport Yacht section and ask any questions you have on the 400DB or the 8.1s. A brief history of the boat along with the number of hours on the motors and what drive sysytem you have would be helpfull for people to answer questions.

Welcome to the board there Down under. Glad to have you with us. We used to have a number of members from New Zealand and Australia on the old SRO board so if you happen to meet any other Sea Ray owners down there tell them about us. :smt024

Enjoy your new boat and have a fantastic trip!

I am curious to hear about your buying/purchase experience. Why did you buy a boat from Texas vs. local? What was the whole experience like? Did you travel to see the boat? Brokers keep telling stories about folks abroad purchasing USA boats. I have never heard first hand from someone who did this until now, so I am just curious.

Oh, and welcome aboard and good luck and be safe with your trip.

Hi Mrsrobinson

I liked the 400db only one or 2 in our part of the country..(Sydney) on conversion and shipping it was cheaper to buy this boat in the USA (Plus I had a great 5 weeks stay in Texas (Seabrook)) C dock guys were wonderful

The issue now is that our $aud is 61c to your dollar so not really worth while buying at the moment. 3 months ago it was nearly one for one...how times have changed..

Sea Rays don't seem to sell well here as most want Riviera's (Aussie boats) Myabe you should buy a riv nearly half price

Hey Ozzie,
Nice boat. Put your year and other boat's info in your Sig so we all recall what you have.
Welcome aboard.

An Aussie here too!

Hopefully will take delivery of mine this weekend....if the weather is OK.

Hi guys,
I'm new to the power boating scene and in the process of getting my recently purchased 1998 250da repowered that has been moored in the middle harbour of sydney for 4 years without use. It's been a potentially stressful experience if not for reading tips from this site. Do you know of any simliar sites in Australia, so I can read the experiences of fellow sport cruisers? Even things like getting bimini repaired or searching for reasonable priced swim platforms is chanllenging. Keen to hear back from you.

Ozzie,

Welcome... I assume you 8.1s are gas not diesel... 1,000 miles you will burn about 12-13 hundred gallons of gas. You might want take some of the trip slow (less that 10 knots)... You tripple you economy as slow speed... Also make sure you bring spare parts, such as two IACs, two water pumps, spare prop, a shaft, and duct tape... You may want to make sure you have zinc not mag or al zincs.. Fresh water boats some times use you al or magnesium zincs...

swimplatforms.com are the go. i got mine from them and had it shipped over with the boat. your problem will be getting it here at a reasonable cost. Buy a "just cars" magazine which has lots of contacts for people who bring in containers from the US.

New member also from Australia.I have had a 450 EB and found site whilst lookinf for replacement canvas and curtin parts. I have had boat for 18 months importing from Florida. Fully converted to 240 Volts!Interesting exercise. After a minor refit piloted it from Newcastle to Gippsland Lakes in Victoria. 470nm down East Coast of Australia.Love the Boat.

Hi,
All new GPO's. new microwave ,washing machine, new compressor for fridge/freezer. Generator is easily adjusted for56/60 Hz issue. stove ,air conditioners(4) all work on 220-240v.Obviously new TV.All up about $14k.Worth it as now certified complient to Aus Standards, thus no Regulation or Insurance issues.

Can I ask how much it cost to have your boats shipped from the USA? There are some cracker boats in the classifieds on this forum that I would give my eye teeth to buy but the shipping process is the sticking point for me.
