New owner of 1997 330 Sundancer

I think you and Saverio have convinced us to go with a camper enclosure. At the end of the day, I want it to be functional and I like the idea of extra shade that you mentioned. Thanks for the input and the nudge in the right direction!

Everyone finds the camper tops more functional, a no brainer. But some of us...on occasion...place form above function. The slant back just looks sooooo much better on our boats :):)

Camper backs are like scooters - they're a really good time until your friends see you with one!

Only joking of course...mostly....kinda.

I feel every bit of this to my core. That was why we were having a debate to begin with. We really don’t need the camper here except for a few months out of the year since we have year round boating. I do like the idea of the extra shade with the side and rear panels off for those times we’re anchored out in the middle of the summer.

Agreed. Would be nice to add a sunshade for those days that are just too damn hot.

Can be done on the cheap...but like I said above, don't let your friends see it up, you might get roasted for such a low-cost, amazon inspired upgrade :)

You don't need to pay for a full camper enclosure. You can go with the slant back and just the top of a camper enclosure for shade, then use the slant back for protection when you're not on the boat. You will quickly find dealing with all that canvas becomes a pain in the ass, so keep it simple at first, you can always expand later. Talk to the canvas shop and or some doc mates about creative solutions that keep you from having to take the canvas on and off every time you use the boat.

Regarding the carpet, that would not be a priority for me, again I would just use the boat for a while.

I was thinking about doing that exact thing. Thanks for sharing your pic. Also, I love that you updated to the newer Sundancer logo on the side of the boat. Where did you get that? Online, dealer?

Thanks
Our boat came with the stock slant back canvas. Trashed it and had a full camper canvas made. As you state above, remove the sides and rear curtains and the top is the perfect shade in the summer. Also had a cockpit cover made for it...

Tailwiinds, I got ambitious and dug through some old stuff and found an old photo of my 330. When the canvas maker and I discussed putting that aft sunshade on I told him I would still like to have access to the side walkway.

Here's what he came up with. With the bimini mounted where it is it's easy to get out to the walkway, plus when it was built I had him extend the bimini a few inches aft to make sure the isenglass didn't slope towards the aft. We live in a desert and if that isenglass slanted it would tend to gather dust.

I was very pleased with the final result.

The tops stay on year round. A must have for relief from the sun at times. The sides and back come off after the "pollen season" in April and the cockpit canvas goes on. The sides and top are hung in my garage until the following October then they go on and the cockpit cover comes off. We use the boat year round as well and utilize an electric heater in the cockpit during the colder months. It all depends on how you use your boat. It comes off 1/year and goes back on 1/year.

We had a 44DB and the wife wanted the DA with the cockpit seating/space so I gave in. I am not a fan of the "cave" on the DAs, so being able to utilize the cockpit during rain, sleet, or snow makes it work for me.

I like that! Great idea on being able to still climb aboard via the side walkway. I’m going to have to borrow this pic to show my canvas guy. Thank you!

Although I don't have a walk-around, I had mine done similarly because I didn't want the down polls on the back. People tend to use them for grab handles when crossing if they are there.
