Calling out to any Northpoint Marina dockers in Winthrop Harbor, Il! I am looking into moving our boat to Lake Michigan next summer. Thinking really hard about this marina. Any input or other suggestions on a good spot. I live in central Illinois and this trip would be less then 3 hour drive and much closer then the drive I have now. I have toured all of the Chicago harbors and they are nice but very expensive.

Come on up. Plenty of slips available. New management is doing a pretty good job. I’m on C dock.

This is our 2nd season in Northpoint and we have been very happy. The marina itself is nice and quiet. Some docks have an active social group, others not as much, so you can kind of decide how much interaction you want with your neighbors. There are enough open slips that you can pretty much pick an open well so that you dont have to have someone right next to you when you are docking.

Its convenient to have Skipper Buds service and fuel on site and West Marine a few minutes away. There is a full grocery store a short drive away, and a Walmart a bit farther. There is a bar and restaurant on site that has decent bar food and pizza, and there are a few small local places in town, but nowhere near the restaurant choices that you would get in Chicago or even Racine.

The property is well maintained, the bathrooms are clean, and the marina staff is helpful if you need something. Safety around the harbor is never a concern at all.

There are hiking trails that adjoin the harbor, and many people bike up into Wisconsin from the harbor.

If you are looking for nightlife, it is probably not the right place. If you are looking for a quiet weekend getaway with some conveniences it's a really good option.

What's not to like. I've been there 15 years and have seen it all. It's in a forest preserve. So there is nature all around, unlike the city marinas. It's quiet. And empty. Now has a pool. Bath houses are nice and air conditioned. There is enough close by to keep it interesting if you'll be up for several days. Kenosha has an outlet mall. There's a yacht club you can join if that's your thing. You can boat to Chicago or Milwaukee in an hour or two. Or cross the lake and hit the small Michigan harbor towns. The only downside is the cable tv - you have to get it setup by the cable company (used to be just plug in). They are doing a number of social events if that's your thing. You have any specific questions.

I keep mine right there at Skipper Buds for the convenience. Not sure how they stack up price wise, but you can go down to Waukegan or up to Kenosha/Racine without too much trouble.

I winter at Skipper Buds also. Prices are fairly comparable especially if you add in the costs for moving the boat to Kenosha or Racine. It is simple. Pull up and take you out and you walk away. I let them winterize it.

So I finally made it! We are finishing the season and winter storage at Skipper Bud’s. Probably be here for month in the spring also. We have been enjoying our stay so far! A person can sure get some exercise around here this place is huge!

What dock are you on? I’m currently downtown for the next week but will be back on C dock on Saturday.

Biggest marina on the Great Lakes. The boardwalk from end to end is a mile I think. The beer garden and live music is great. Enjoy.

We are on A dock. Trying to get as many trips in before haul out! It is spread out that’s for sure. We spend most of our time in St Joseph at a small 50 slip marina so it is different but we do enjoy being here.
