That's what we've been doing Mike. Neither of our boats have mid cleats, and the farther you get upriver, the locks are shorter in length, therefore the churning is in the whole lock.
We have it down, and going back down there won't be the turbulence in the lock because they're just draining it.
It's a great trip, today is kicking back relaxing day, probably swimming. 20220910_094426.jpg

They have a pumpout here where we're staying, but it hasn't been used in at least two years.
It would come on but not pump. We both really need a pump out.
I took a look at the pump and the belt was too loose to run the pump.
I have adjusted many motors in my career as an electrician, and I was able to get this working, and pumped out the head in the boats.
It really wasn't hard to do, I'm just glad the people working here unlocked it and left.

Good on ya Greg for having the know-how and the tools to be able to fix that pump. Beats having to illegally dump in the river.

That whole stretch of the upper Snake River is such a beautiful cruise. Thanks for taking us along with you.

I sure hope they at least let you pump out for free, if no pay you for repairing their pump!

This coffee maker sure has been nice for this trip. We've been using it every morning.

We're back at Fishhook Park. It was our first stop, and now our last stop.
We'll hit the early lockage tomorrow morning and head home. We all have a busy week, so no time to rest.
Here are a few pics from the trip. We had a great time with Jim and his wife Julie, it's too bad more people couldn't make it.
All four locks are a 100' elevation change.

Sorry we couldn't make it. It would have been better with more curved glass boats.

That wall makes that 300 look like a 8' dingy.

Thank you Greg for posting. If Nate doesnt get you the "Trip Swag" let me know. It's not much, but like ol Tom used to say, "Free is a really good price".

Yes, thanks for posting! There was just too many things that weren't aligning for this time around.
For some reason, I have phone numbers, but not addresses! If y'all would PM yours my way, I'll get you John's graciously donated swag.

You don't realize how big these locks are until you're in one. They really are something to experience.

Great photos all! Thanks for posting them. I've been up and down that stretch of the Snake and enjoyed each trip.

Glad you two made it home safe and sound!

Just send mine to Greg and I'll catch up with him down the road somewhere. That way you don't have to send two separate packages and that will save some cash!

The trip was a blast. I battled some batteries that were low on water. Filled them and they came back a little more each day. It didn't really cause much of a problem. The 200-watt solar panels saved the day when we weren't traveling or traveling very far. The weather was good, but a little smokey on the way back.

I did have some fun while following Greg's boat. In the really flat sections where there was no wind or waves, I would follow directly in his wake. If I got IN his prop turbulence, I lost about 3/10's of a mile an hour. I kept weaving back and forth just to confirm it and I was probably 150 yards back. I was sort of surprised by that and how consistent it was. I figured I was far enough back that it wouldn't matter, but I was wrong. AGAIN!

The total trip was 290 miles according to my GPS. I started with a full tank and added 40 gallons at the 60-mile mark. The tank was full and I happy to get 1.5 miles per gallon! Of course, that was wiped out by the $7.78 per gallon at the first and only place with fuel between Kennewick and Lewiston. Fortunately, it was way less in Lewiston at $5.00 per gallon.

I'm glad you two had a good trip and a fun time doing it. As I said before, every time I've done that trip it's been fun.

    Fair winds and calm seas!
