Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

It looks like the anchor light has two bulbs, one forward and the other facing the stern to give a 360 degree light when an anchor. When I hit the anchor light switch only the front lights so I assume it just needs a bulb if I understand the set up correctly.
So my question is - how the hell do you change the bulb with the light so high up? To make matters worse I have to soft top option and wonder if I need to remove this and get a huge ladder? Does the light fold forward?
Please help a new 340 owner :)
I have the same boat as you, and I remember having to change the bulb. The fixture I had (rinky-dink Perko light) did have a thumb screw so it could be lowered. I was able to get to it by standing on the back seat (curved cushion) without too many contorsions. Can't remember if I had to collapse the rear bimini to get to everything.

open or remove your front isenglass, close the sliding door to the cabin, climb up stand on the front dash or whatever you call it. easy access to the light. mine requires a wrench to loosen the nut and then it simply folds down. Remove the screw on the top cover and you now have access.

Thanks Cory - I'll look again tonight - I did not think my arms could get over the Bimini soft top. Did you have to move your frame for the Bimini out of the way?

I normally release my sunshade and fold it forward - however - that is not an option with the soft top. Your best bet may be to try to reach it via a small step/ladder on the gunnel and then lean over onto the arch.

I had to use a 6’ ladder in the cockpit to reach mine with the soft top. It’s a long way up there without being able to fold anything out of the way.

I did not have to fold anything out of the way. If standing on the dash, unless you are vertically challenged, the arch will be about chest height. you should have plenty of reach at that point to tilt the light forward. I am assuming your light is on the front side of the radar dome, like my '04. Some have them attached to the rear of the dome. From your picture, it looks like it's in the same position as mine.

Unfortunately its going to be a little harder as he has the soft top option model. With this setup the frame is permanently affixed to the arch and extends more forward than the bimini top on our 2004 340SDAs.

Exactly - I’m at the boat now and unless my arms are 4-5 ft long there is no way I can reach. I’m thinking that since I think I will replace the missing Digital antenna, I’ll wait till I’m ready to do that and unstring the front Bimini and kill two birds at once.

Whats everyone doing with the Floor lighting in the cabin? What are they switching it out with.. Pics would be great or the model of the light...

Is there any magic to stringing the bimini/visor on a soft top? I need to add a few stitches where the zipper attaches so I want to take off the rear top. It is laced with black line around the aluminum frame and I am wondering if there is any special way to re-string it after I have it repaired. My other options is to hand stitch it but if it’s not difficult I will just remove it and have it done on a machine. If it’s off I would also be able to use a ladder and change my anchor light bulb:).

Hi.. My PORT engine not getting to optimum Rpm’s.. under load the port engine only gets to like 3000 rpm’s. When I use in conjunction with starboard engine about (4200 rpm’s 9n the starboard) the port managers to get to about 3400. Overall speed like 31 WOT. What was sounding like. Popping sound, now sounds more like a bogging after the changes but the weather changed a lot tonight so maybe when it’s hotter the popping comes back. The motors are 2004 8.1 horizons 370 hp. 550 hours. I picked up the boat from the marina because it was mostly siting. They are super busy. They took a quick look and we’re talking about heads engines etc. So I picked it up and brought it home, I live on water so it’s now behind my home. This is what I tried today, Changed plugs. Inspected wires which are basically new. Swapped out coil pack on a cylinder where the plug looked fresh like it wasn’t firing or not getting fuel. Changed inline fuel filter. Changed main fuel filter. And to me the most important thing was compression tested every cylinder. All at 150 pressure. So I would think engine and heads are good. My brother is much more mechanically inclined then me and he thinks it’s a gruel pressure problem. I did not change the fuel pump. I’m now out of ideas. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Check fuel pressure might rule out the fuel pump ?

Whats everyone using for Anchor Chain? I'm debating on going all chain 200ft... I did that on my 320.. But just the weight... Would love 100ft chain & 200ft Rode... But don't know anyone that can make that for me...

I have 150 ft chain n 100 ft rode. Very rarely do i need to put out more than 50 to 60 ft. of chain. Did the splice myself. Only took 5 attempts to get it right.

Do you notice a difference with the 150ft of chain in the bow... The weight?

I have a 2005 Sundancer that I purchased in November. I had it out yesterday and was running up to WOT when the port engine reached 4000 rpm it dropped rpm quickly, it did not quit just lost rpm. I backed off the power for both engines not knowing what happened. The rest of the day it ran fine and could cruise at 3500 rpm no problem, however did the same thing when I was running up to WOT again.

The beginning of the year new plugs fuel filters both engines and added 160 gallons of fuel and added fuel stabilizer. The boat ran fine before without any problems and now has about 130 gal of fuel.

I plan on checking the fuel filters for water.

Similar problem as Johnnydee, any ideas?

Thanks, Dave

Ok so exactly where does the AC condensation flow from the mid floor bilge? I can’t quite follow the line out. Does it dump in the engine room? TIA

I believe it dumps out the side of the boat... Fill that box with water from the shower once the bilge kicks on ur see it pumping it out...

Yep - did that - even added a bit of soap to make it easier to soot outside but nada. Looking to see if it is on the port or starboard or in the engine room bilge. The manual is no help. A mystery so far unless someone knows for sure…thx
