What oil filter do you guys use for the 496 mag? The one on there is Mercury but I was wondering if quicksilver makes one that I can use.

 

Napa 1060 (sfl31060, pfl41060) , Fram tg5 or xg5, carquest 85060.

I used the Fram TG5 most often since it is $6 at Wally W.

 

Does anybody know what the Allen key size is to take off the 496 motor cover that's on top of the engine?

 

06 270 SLX with radar arch, Currently swapping my 6.2 to 496HO, 6.2 suddenly shut down under power. was running sluggish last few times out, No warnings, buzzers or limp modes. No faults were stored in the computer either pulled the hoses on the bottom of the manifolds & not a drop of water in them either side. Marina was sure the outdrive failed but after removing it it was in fine condition. Anyone had an issue like this? Now for the 496 swap I’m trying to find what is the correct gear ratio and proper pitch for the bravo III, does anyone have rhis set up? Currently Have 22p props & 2.20:1 gear ratio.

 

Factory would have been 2.0 ratio and 26P props with the regular 496 (375 HP).

 

Has anybody replaced the factory clarion cmd4 head stereo unit. I'm curious if I can get a newer one that will work with the factory remotes that are on the boat

 

The remotes on the boat only work with that manufacturer, and if I remember correctly only worked to the cmd5 maybe. There was a thread of someone that switched to fusion and fished all new remote wires.

 

I'm having an issue with my engine hatch lift. Every time it goes up or down it makes a banging/knocking noise. Has anyone experienced this?

 

The upper attachment point is on a bracket. I had to lubricate it because the lift moves around on the bracket as it comes up and down. I used petroleum jelly. Look at that area.

 

An upgraded head unit is on my Christmas wish list. If you get a newer clarion unit, there is an adapter cable for the remotes. 8pin to 6 pin . Crutchfield, Amazon, and eBay have them. According to reviews, the LCD display on the remote will no longer work, but the buttons all will.

I am thinking about a ‘07 SLX with the 425hp mag. It is a northern michigan boat, looks clean in the puctures.
What should I be looking for on this boat? What are the pro’s and con’s?

The 240, 260, and 270 boats of that vintage are very similar. There is a long thread about the 240 sundeck. Most comments will apply to all three boats, the 260 and 260 are just a touch longer, with larger motors as options. The 270 has a molded as part of the hull swim platform, where the 240 and 260 are bolted on.

I have a '06 240, and a good friend has a '06 270 We both love them.

Things to look for are the overall condition, maintenance records indicating how it has been taken care of, etc. The factory tower is nice, if you are a wakeboarder. Good options are the bow and cockpit tables. The bow sunpad conversion insert is nice. ours is always used. Dual batteries if you spend a lot of time swimming with the radio playing. Some people like the head, the pump-out is a nice upgrade vs the port-potty only, but we took ours out completely once the kids were older.

Pros and cons of these boats have been said many times. They are the family truckster of sport boats. Tons of storage, stable ride, room for the extended family. They aren't speed demons, mine tops out at upper 40's with the 350mag/B3

 

The 270 slx is the gentleman’s sports car of boats. Sleek and powerful. The 425 hp option is more than you need but great.
Main thing to look for is hull cracks or repairs. There is a thread on here regarding that.

Do either of you trailer your boats? I may be trailering for most of the year, we trailered in the past with a 25' crownline so assuming it will be similar.

 

I trailered my 270slx several times. It is a LOT to tow. It is over width at 9’, and with a trailer it is 35’ long. It is not like pulling your crownline. It also tops out at almost 8000 pounds on a trailer with gear and gas.

 

Hello Paul....Do you know what the deal is with the "water space" under the locker floor? I pulled the plastic plugs and there is water in mine along with foam type insulation. How does water get in there and what do you do about it?
