Official 270 SLX Thread (There HAS to be enough of us!)

Has anybody added windlass to their 270slx?
Following along, thinking of retrofitting my 2012 also to have a windlass. Mine has blank inserts in the switch board where the windlass power and raise/lower switches would normally go, as it did not have the windlass factory installed. What have you determined so far? I found a bunch of part numbers here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/srweb-pvt-...ts-manuals/2012_2012-SLX-270-Parts-Manual.pdf
FPMarine.com sells the switches. Have you sourced any of the other parts?
I am realizing that its very hard to find parts for this boat online. I sent my local dealer a list of part numbers needed for some other repairs my boat needs. I wish there were more dealers listing these parts for sale online and it weren't such a process to just order whats needed.. for example the gullwing hinges over the engine hatch, why is it so hard to find anyone who sells these online.

Haven’t researched the parts yet. Was just trying to get an idea if anybody has done it before. Also was curious if it’s prewired already. If it i would think that would make the job considerably easier.

Good day ClubSearay and all my 270SLX friends, I have a question. I need to change my TPS. I looked everywhere and read every thread and watched every video I could find. I removed the flame arrestor from my engine hoping to see a Throttle Position Sensor to yank out. Cant locate it. Is it on the engine or is it on the throttle up at the helm? Please help me locate it. I tried removing the throttle assembly and it's not quite straightforward. Figured I would post here for some guidance before I go crazy. Thank you!

You may get more response in the general discussion thread. I think it's read more often than this one, and your question is engine specific, not model specific.

Hello, My 270 SLX is new to me as I'm a first time boat owner but have boated a while back. I'm still working on trying to perfect backing into a slip and have found it difficult at times. Does anyone know roughly what the pivot point is on this boat? Maybe a dumb question. I try to line up on a 60 deg angle and trying to figure out how far past the SB piling I need go before stopping turning hard to the SB side and then bumping into reverse, then neutral, then reverse. I've been lining the SB piling up with the helm before I stop and turn the wheel. Maybe I need to pull little more forward. I'm trying to conquer this skill, but its a bit stressful. I've tried to line up parallel in front of slip and back up straight but wind and current tends to cause me to drift and not stay lined up with the slip. Thanks in advance on the input.

I would recommend a boat handling course, and a safety course. In my area, the Power Squadron offers on-water boat handling for free, and the safety course is not very expensive. Good information, and good hands-on experience. Practice makes perfect.

Ok, yea we did take the USCG safety class. Probably just need more time and get experience.

Why not hire a captain to help make you comfortable with close quarter maneuvering. IMHO, way better than trying to figure it out..

That was the original plan when we brought boat home but due to weather and timing surveyor/trainer/captain couldn't make it. Perhaps I reach out and setup a training session. Thanks for the advise.

TL, no 1 answer. Depends on wind, current, tide, beers. It will change every time. What worked yesterday may not today. Was it Patton said, when the first shot is fired throw away the battle plan? Adapt, think on your feet, and you’ll be fine.

Would a steering knob help in docking an SLX? Not sure if it would work well even if steering wheel is tilted all the way up.

How can i favorite this Group Chat ? Instead of going through all the links to find it

Purchasing a 2012 Sea Ray 270 SLX without a trailer. Can anyone provide what their trailer setup is? Looking to purchase a universal a tri-axle with electric over hydraulic brakes. Only going the universal route because build times on a Loadmaster is 5+ months. Thanks!

Does anyone keep there slx in salt water for the season? Have any of you noticed corrosion on the swim platform? I may need to try to put a zinc on it as the back of the swim platform seems to be under water.

The power steering on my 2006 doesn’t seem to be as smooth as it used to be. I tried looking for an outlet to add some grease to the steering actuator but didn’t see one. Anybody have issues with their power steering and if so did anything fix it?

Hello All
I've been away from the forum for a while. I am still the proud owner of a 2007 270 SLX. She is still pulling strong and without squeaks -> she's a keeper :)
Last season, the fuel gage started jumping up and down. This season, the fuel gage is stuck on 3/4. I am assuming it is the fuel sending unit. Anyone know how to access the fuel sending unit?

Been a while since I had my 270 Slx, but I thought it was accessible from the engine compartment, or maybe that was just the shut off solenoid.

Mine is the 270SDX (sundeck), but the parts and labor should be similar. I just got a quote from my local MarineMax, using all factory ordered parts, of course. $3300 for the parts, but $6500 for the labor! Parts seemed like reasonable dealer prices, but the labor? wow

Might get the parts and do it myself. hardest part will be crawling under the helm for the connections and running the wire from bow to stern.

Try axel might be overkill, We just purchased a Loadmaster universal aluminum trailer for our 270 SDX. Model 2527, tandem torsion axle with surge disk brakes. Dealer at Lake of the Ozarks sells them, and has them in stock. Trailer is rated for 9800 pounds. bunks were perfect as set up, just had to adjust the winch post for a perfect fit. Towed fine behind my F150
