Official 370 Sundancer thread

Hi all,

I have a love/hate relationship with my westerbeke 7.0 BCG that's for sure.
I do some work, it Runs great for a bit then stops again.

I suspect the coil to be honest, but my real question is this:

Research tells me the 7.0bcg engine would be a daihatsu CB 993cc engine found in a charade etc. Anyone else come to the same conclusion?
In case it helps anyone else, westerbeke coil and resistor (037968) AU$580 is the same as a Daihatsu Charade, I chose an Aussie brand, Tridon TIC074 replacement for $80 and got the generator running again immediately.

Posting here for future owners. So finally got the new Gamin 8610 installed. So total package: fox marine gateways, connect to NMEA network (30 foot backbone to engine room) Garmin 742 (installed by previous owner), and the 8610. The 8610 fit really good in the location where the old Raytheon radar was. Glad I went with that one. Had a starboard panel made by boat outfitters. 1/4 inch thick. 10.5 high. 11 5/8 wide. All cables run to arch. The two Garmin are networked. Tapped into old electronics power supplies. NMEA is on switch and radar is on a switch. A lot of work, but pleased with the result. Next up is mounting the radar.

Looks like a great install! Very nice.

I have a 1991 350 which is 39’11” and was a 370 the next year….is this the thread for my boat?
As a member of this thread for nearly 20 years, I'd say not so much. Most of the content here is focused on the 95-99 model years. There is another thread here with a title something like "Big Old 350 Sundancers"., which will be closer to your model, depending on what you are looking for. A lot of the systems carried over to the 95-99 models. Interior is very different, and the power plants will tend to be fuel injected Mercruisers, or Cat diesels.

Edit: This one: http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/official-350-thread.38715/

Anyone know the Sprectrum gel coat number for the 1998 Artic white. Parts manual says PN 677732 White Arctic ISO NPG (summer). Contacted Sea Ray who referred to dealer. Dealer hasn't really been helpful. Spectrum search calls up 1411 or 1470.

I just need a patch kit to top off some filled 3/8 inch mounting holes in the radar arch.

Just put a deposit down on this 97' 370. NEW, not rebuilt 7.4 bluewaters, 40 hours. PO has done a few nice upgrades. Pending survey and water test we will have a new ride for this season:D

I'm working on reading this entire thread... but holy cow it's a lot. Think I might make up a spreadsheet for future lookers that categorizes or directs you what pages to go to for an issue you may be looking at. Anyway, can anybody give me a quick rundown of any known issues to look for?? Survey's not for a month so I have lots of time to read up and study, but just wondering if anybody has a quick run down of things to check.

Also, take a look at last picture. Cabin bilge where the shower sump is. What is that hole beside the float switch? Looks factory, but wouldn't the water run into that hole and then not be able to be pumped out as it's lower than the bilge pump?

I have the 98 and don't recall seeing either of those holes in you bilge. I'll need to check today/tomorrow when I'm there. As for the survey, check the usual things. They are well built boats, so not a lot of cronic issues. I did see one with wet stringers when I was looking. Also, the anchor mount up on the bow can let water in if not sealed tightly. Other than that, pretty standard stuff. Good luck.

I know exactly what that's about.
When water gets in between the outer hull and the hull liner, for whatever reason, it winds up in an inaccessible, center bilge area. Unchecked, it will rot the stringers, and undermine the mid cabin floor. This mitigation was to open the wall between the regular storage bilge (where the pump is) and the hidden void. Actually pretty good idea. Assume, but verify that the owner resolved whatever damage may have been caused by the standing water. Mine was in there for years. Search around, you'll see some pics of the mushroom forest I found. I mitigated mine differently, but I may go back and do this opening. As long as you stay on top of it, you shouldn't be introducing any bilge smells into the cabin.
The boat looks great, and having new power plants will give you lots of joy.

Hmm very interesting. Thanks for the reply. Now are you talking about the square cut out or the circle cut out I circled in yellow? So basically just keep an eye on that area and vacuum out the water then?

Yes and yes. The square cut out gives you access to the void. The round one gives you access to the bilge area under the storage floor. Water can collect in either place, and the bulkhead/storage floor block that area from you without the holes. If you have or can get an inspection camera, I'd go in that square hole and look left and right near the top to see if the stringers have been worked on, or not.

Awesome, that makes total sense now. Thanks for that info! I will definitely inspect that area when I see the boat next at Survey time.

It seems like every model has an "official thread" except for the 370 DA. What an awesome boat! Not to big, not to small, moves okay with gas motors. What's not to like? Any 370 owners with me on this? I'd like to hear from you guys. With a few changes I made to my boat (camper canvas, flat screen TV, & custom bar) my cockpit area is an incredible place to hang out with friends, have a few drinks, or a cup of coffee in the morning. I'm pretty happy I accidently found this boat. What do you think? Mark
Just got me a 96 370 sedan bridge im in love with it i need a table for the cockpit and the small couch any idea where to go?

Unlikely you will come across a factory original table, although I believe that it's just a rectangular fiberglass table with a pole and a weighted bottom. So, the sky is the limit. Get something that fits, and can get out of the way when not in use. Search your boat online, and see examples of original and replacement tables.

OK, now I have one for you guys.
Adding oil pressure and temp gauges to my Westerbeke 7.0BCG. In the engine mounted switch box, there are 2 wires that go into a loom. brown for temp, and blue for oil. got that part. What I don't know is where they actually terminate on the other end. I'd like for them to be in the helm, but my gut is telling me this is part of the remote start harness, which would terminate in the 12vdc panel.
Before I pull the panel, has anyone added gauges to their genset, and did you use those "optional" wires? The supplement doesn't mention these either way.

I came very close to purchasing a 370 a few years ago. It was on its third set of engines then. All failed because of the water intrusion issue that was never corrected by the PO with the exhaust. Make sure this correction has been done on the boat.

My hull was one of the first to get the water lift mufflers from Sea Ray and Mercury when set number 2 went in, in 2002. That set lasted 17 years, but eventually, the port engine still got reversion. It's more the design of the Gen VI 7.4 aggressive valve overlap than the exhaust. I'm putting the last one in right now, because of another issue. Still 454's, so 20 years from now, I'll see it again. (Well, I won't.) I don't think the 8.1's have the same inherent issue.

Following this, I would love to do something like this
