OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

Welcome and congratulations. I installed a ladder this year when our docks were converted to floating. We had also taken some trips where the wife was unable to negotiate a stern on/off due to the confluence of tide and pier configuration. This ladder is easy for all including dogs. When not in use, I have storage brackets on both sides; ladder only weighs 35 lbs or so.

We looked at numerous marine style ladders but settled on one from the industrial market. We don't use the casters and have it lag screwed into the dock. It's less than 1/2 the width of our finger dock. It's working well for us.

Very cool. We are on floating docks as well. Dock is 24" above the water. I have a four step unit that is 32" high, but to then step on the boat is probably another 14" I estimate. Your solution must be at least $2,500.

Closer to $3K last year.

Sealant for bow windows
I need to reseal the black caulking around the 2 windows on the bow (see pic). Sea Ray responded to my question of what is recommended and they said Bostik #940. I'm finding this product is not widely available. Our boat yard was planning to use black 3M 4200. I've decided to do the work myself. Any experience doing this job and also what is recommended for a sealant?

Use Sikaflex 295UV Black for that application.
4200 is an adhesive not a caulking/sealant.

I have done a number of boat windows. If your going to remove the window from the frame and the frame from the boat, then Sikaflex is the way to go to re-seal the window to the frame. It is made for that and works great. To reseal the frame to the boat you can use 3M 5200 or Sikaflex. Do not use 3M 4200/5200 to try and seal a window it will never hold and will only leak again.

Also have used dow 795 with no leaks in close to ten years. Stay away from 5200, you or someone else may need to reseal or replace a window in the future. Only hull to deck seams should be forever.

First post on this thread. First question am I at the right place. My recently acquired boat is a 2006 SeaRay 40 Sundancer DA with qsb5.9 325's.
My second question is where are the A/C condenser pump relays on my boat. They are small solid state devices that turn on the A/C condenser pump (in the bilge) when a ac is turned on but makes sure that if another ac is turned on at the same time no addition current is sent to the pump. The control box should have one 120V wire from each ac and only one 120V output wire to the pump.

Thanks

Ex, close but I think the forum you want is http://clubsearay.com/index.php?thr...r-official-thread.53469/page-241#post-1371884.
But, I think if I were you I would post the question in the "Electrical Stuff" forum as a standalone post. A title like "2006 40DA A/C Relays Location" would be succinct and likely to garner some answers.

ISO fuel consumption (GPH) with varying RPM from idle to WOT with MPH for 2003 390 MY (or later model MY) with stock Cummins 480 CE and 24 x27 wheels. Sea Ray tells me they don't have it and sent me to boattest.com but they don't have it either.

Mike, curious as to whether you found any information on this issue?

Mike, what have you learned about the 480ce dropped valve/head issue and does it apply to all of these engines or just certain ones with a particular head installed? I spoke to Cummins and they gave me the impression it was not applicable to all 480ce's. I just posted about it in the forum, but thought I would reach out to you since you own the same model I'm interested in.

This is another Mike. Suggest you look at www.sbmar.com/ if you have not already. Lots of information on the 480CE on this web site.

From above site: "The first new Serial number of the revised heads was 4664956. Anything prior to that has the old style valve seats which are know to fail especially if over propped."

Our 2005 480CE had both heads replaced by a Cummins dealer before I purchased the boat.
Hope this helps. We put 600+ hours on the boat in last year doing the Great Loop.

Thanks,
Mike

Did they stamp the new head serial number somewhere on the engine or elsewhere? I'm trying to figure out how I can tell if this boat had the heads changed out prior to being sold or by a prior owner. Not too many records from the past owners 2005-2019, just the current owner's records.
