Oil Change? What have things come too!

Same with the girlfriend's car, it's buried up in the wheel well behind all this plastic crap. I have to pop five or six caps to get to it and then pull the crap back. All while laying under the car with the oil pan pressing against my chest, both arms stretched up into the wheel well area trying to do it. I left the caps off this time so it would be easier next year. I'm waiting to hear "what's that banging noise in front of my car" now.

The good news is her dad just built a monster two car garage with a car lift. The bad news is they live about an hour away.

at least it’s buried behind the plastic. Mine is just sitting there with the tire splashing water all over it.

You guys need to go Electric!

No oil change on the Lightning!

Honestly if you keep an eye out for sales and rebates you may likely cut the DIY price even further. Like another 30-50%
Think and plan ahead. You know you need the oil changed at least once a year. Buying it months in advance is ok. It won’t go bad.

No that did not blow my mind…it just pissed me off….. What did ..no word of a lie. My wife calls me right before Christmas and said the brakes are making a grinding noise and the warning on the dash says it is pad wear. I’m working up in Michigan and don’t have time for this shit ….. I usually do brakes myself…. But not during Christmas ….. so I call the dealer and said I need you to replace 4 rotors and pads can you give me an estimate…. He said approx $4,000…. I said did you hear me?…. He said yes and we are running 6 weeks behind…. Holy Phuck. Now that blew my mind.
I purchased Brembo pads and rotors and a new emerg brake actuator for a total of $480 and replaced everything over Christmas.
A week ago I traded it for a Lexus ….. no more Mercedes bullshit

Holly Phuck is right! Same as you, I didn't want to deal with it this time of year, birthday last week, yada yada yada. I have the scanner for BMW to do the brakes and change the battery etc ... After this, I am going back to not letting anyone do anything again ... I need to stop being so lazy, I guess I am getting old ...

That's nothing...I forgot with my last Ram, the oil filter is right above the steering assembly...no way to get it out without oil going everywhere!

It's hard to beat the F150 with the 2.7 ecoboost for easy oil change. A plastic quarter turn drain plug with nothing obstructing it and a cartridge filter you change after popping the hood...

Where do you gentlemen dispose of the oil. I see Auto Zone mentioned, any other ideas.

My son had to have a "fancy" car. Had a tire chain blow off his tire and rip up everything under the rear pass side. Took it to the dealer and they had a price of $250 an hour for labor. He about choked on the words. He was going to have everything checked while he was there. They wanted $500 just for the safety check that other dealers do for free. As for the chain damage, his insurance said they won't pay for the dealer to do the work. They wanted over $5k just in labor. His mother in law is service manager at the local ford dealer. They are doing it for $200 plus parts. Oh, and they do his oil changes.

I use the Rotella T full synthetic in everything that takes the heavy oil. Sure makes a difference in fuel costs on the pick up and the tractor. I actually use the used oil from the boats in the lawn equipment. Still looks like new, so why not.

Dad used the local oil change place for his pick up. They are a steady $167 for a 2017 Colorado. His service warranty is void if I do his oil. The dealer wants $189 for his.

I change the boat and the jet ski, Rotella in both. I should be making my sons do it, but they were busy this fall. I don't have time to do our vehicles. My car is $70 for Valvoline full synthetic. My wife's new car came with 3 year complimentary maintenance so I don't have to worry about that for awhile.

I use it on fence posts to stop them from rotting. Put it in a garden sprayer with the nozzle opened up. Spray them down every year, in the summer. Otherwise they rot out in a few years. I have even used it mixed with Crossbow weed killer 1:1 to kill the English Blackberries.

That's the dumbest part for me. My marina collect's oil and is 5 miles from my house. The local transfer station is 2 miles from my house and collect's oil. Most gas stations have to collect oil and any place that sells oil must also collect it.

I generally keep a couple of 5 gal. pals in the shed and when full I empty them at the transfer station and back in the shed they go. The boat uses 15gal. or three 5 gallon pal's. I keep an extra empty one around to change the oil in the boat and drop the full ones at the marina.

So why did I decide to pay someone to change my oil ...

I change oil in my old Harley. I run it till hot then pull the oil filter while still running. When it starts spitting old oil I pour a fresh quart in the tank. Let it flush out all the old oil then when it starts spitting clean oil again I turn her off, spin on a new filter and pour 3 more quarts of 60wt dino. Clean as a whistle.

Not sure I would try this myself.

Yes -- the main downside if you do your own. Local places do take it but I ended up keeping it all in a big bin under the porch, and taking it to the annual "hazardous waste day" at the dump. I live in a yuppie area and no one else does any DIY, so when I show up with 50 gals of used oil, I get the deer-in-the-headlights look

There are people around who run waste oil heaters .... I should probably find one and just drop it off there.

My friend has a machine shop with a waste oil heater, He comes to my house an takes all the old oil I have.
I just have to get rid of the oil filters.

The MIB (Merc In a Box) a few short years ago could be had complete for a little over $12K. Can't believe that price.

People/Bis are just making up prices and seeing what sticks.
