For years, WA residents could buy handguns without having to first obtain any sort of permit. If the buyer didn't have a concealed weapons permit there was a 3-day waiting period before he could actually take possession of his new gun. If the buyer had a CWP he could take the gun home with him.

We that all changed, no thanks to our democratic state legislature and our democratic state administration.

Yesterday I went to one of the local gun shops to pick up a smaller 9mm pistol that would be easier to conceal then the 9mm I now have. I found a nice S&W M&P with an 11-round mag. I was all set to buy it when the salesman said I couldn't take it with me even though I had my CWP. He said I also couldn't take the mag because the state has set a capacity limit of 10 rounds.

Now, gun stores can sell semi auto pistols with any magazine capacity they want, but if the magazine capacity exceeds 10 rounds the store cannot let the buyer have the magazine with the guy. The buyer, after he gets his gun (more on that below) has to go online to buy a magazine with the higher capacity. The gun store reduces the price of the gun by what it's going to cost him to buy the magazine online. The store then sends the mags back to the manufacturers for reimbursement.

So I filled out the 4473 on a tablet, scribbled my name at the end and then was told it would be about 3 weeks before I could pick up the gun. Seems the state has mandated a mental health background check to make sure I'm OK mentally to own said gun.

At this point I was pi$$ed. I bought and paid for a Springfield Hellcat with a 10 round mag, but I can't go back and pick up the gun for about 3 weeks.

Does that suck, or what! Stupppppid fuc*ing Dems.

You had me at stupid F*ing state government. If it weren't for my job and the boating lifestyle here, I'd be gone. I can't retire soon enough.

It did catch me by surprise, but taking a step back and looking at the idiots who run our state gov't (at all levels), I guess I'm not too surprised.

Mike, there are 3 counties (King, Pierce and Snohomish) on the I-5 corridor that runs from Vancouver, BC down to Portland and continues south. Those 3 counties are as blue as possible, and they have a large enough population to control how the entire state votes. Oh, and did I mention those 3 counties HATE guns. Only the bad guys over there have guns.

Unless "the Big One" (earthquake and tidal wave) come along and wash those 3 counties off into Puget Sound, WA will forever be a blue state.

Sad state of affairs.

I'm a red island in one of those blue counties. I actually think that half of the city I live near is red. It astounds me that people continue to vote the way they do and then bitch and moan about homeless living on the sidewalks, crime increasing, open drug use, etc.

Sounds like downstate Illinois which is forever controlled by Chicago...

Just buy the gun in another fucking state.

I did something easier...I bought the gun here and had my son in TX buy a 12 round mag and send it to me. Also bought IWB and OWB holsters for it. The IWB is more comfortable than I thought it would be so I'm going to keep both.

I'm surprised that the shop owner didn't refer you to a gunsmith to have the mags blocked.

I inherited a pistol that came with 3 13 round mags. The alteration was inexpensive and is reversible.

Soulshine, that would have been the easy way but the state laws prohibit selling mags with more than 10 rounds.

Crazy that some states are like that....others are like this!

My wife and I might go to AZ this winter. I joked, we might drive around in the desert and look for bodies on our property. I explained we'll carry some extra water, spare tires, toolbox in case we need something. To my surprise she said 'and some guns'. She kind of opened the door for a new purchase, I'm going to go looking for another handgun, something more modern with high capacity mag and lighter than those that I've got.

I just got to go shopping...it's amazing how I've got all day to do things but can't seem to find the time.
