I have a water heater with a heat exchanger loop coming off my QSC 8.3. Unfortunately the water heater tank has sprung a leak. I have to remove it and ship it back to the vendor for an inspection and hopefully a warranty replacement.

That means I'll be without a tank for while so I need to do something with the coolant loop off the engine. I see 2 options:
  1. Use a hose barb to join the 2 hoses and make a temporary loop.
  2. Cap off the 2 hoses for the HE loop with brass caps.
My question is, would option 2 be at all detrimental to the engine? I tend to think not because the hot water HE loop fittings would ordinarily be blocked off. Option 2 would be far easier as I can just screw on a cap, vs removing the current fittings. Those fittings will be reused with the new tank.

I took at look at the engine where the heater loop hoses attach. Each hose has a shut off valve. Problem solved!
