Getting ready for our big relocation cruise in our new to us 450EB, named "I'm In Deep". I'm new to offshore boating, so I have enlisted the help of a good friend who is currently a chief on a commercial tug, hauling cargo in the Hawaiian Islands but has done 30 or so relocation trips of pleasure yachts through the Panama Canal, so he will be our captain. Also along for the ride is my 22 year old son and his friend. So four dudes, on a boat, it should be epic.
We are leaving the Willow Berm Marina in Isleton early Friday morning and the plan is to top off with fuel in Pittsburg before heading out in to the Bay. From everything I have read, we want to try to get through the Golden Gate as early as possible, well before noon. We have a slip reserved in Monterey Friday night so we can fuel and get off the boat to stretch our legs, grab a nice meal and a few beverages.
Day two the plan is to leave again early and head for Moro Bay. If the winds are favorable, we should be there in the early afternoon. Here is the big question at this point. If we are early, do we fuel up and push on to Ventura, probably overnight? Or stay in Moro Bay? Not sure yet on this.o_O
The last leg from Ventura to Long Beach should be fairly easy and we have our slip reserved, so we should be ready to pull right in. My wife will be there ready to greet us and tell me how dirty I got the boat. :D
So there are the Cliff Notes on the trip. Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments. Lots of pictures and posts to follow as I have cell service along the way.

Sounds like an incredible trip.....one of a life time.
Join CSR so you can post pictures directly ...it will be a lot easier .....crop them a bit so they don’t go side ways
Good luck

Sounds like a great trip! I’d be a little concerned about going around Pt. Conception at night, but the winds look better Sat Night than they due Sunday afternoon. See how the crew is doing when you fuel up in Morro and power through if everyone is up for it.

Be safe and have a great trip...

Oh damn ...you are just going down the coast... I thought the Panama Canal was part of the trip but it was your buddies resume...too funny....have fun ...but still join CSR

Take the time to enjoy it unless it's going to be part of a regular routine

Only one thing to add.... What do the tides look like when you are leaving the Delta. It is much better to be going out when the tides are also going out. If the tide is coming in you could be fighting a fairly swift current through the Carquinez Strait and out the Golden Gate.

Enjoy the trip.

It has been several years but the Morro Bay YC has nice docks and it's a pleasant town, of course it's 2020 and who knows what's open...

Day 1 is in the books. We did have a glitch. Stopped in Pittsburg to fuel and the port side engine would not start. Four hours later with an Uber ride into town, we figured it out. Bad relay. We improvised a jumper wire and it started right up.
With the delay we ended up going through the Golden Gate in the afternoon. A little slow with a headwind and the current but we made it to Monterey a little after 9pm. I’ll load up pictures later.

Day 2 in the books. We shared a side tie with the 110’ “Golden Boy 2” mega yacht in Monterey. Even though they were bigger, we were first in line at the fuel dock when they opened at 08:00. We were fueled and out of the harbor by 8:30. The seas were perfect, so we put the hammer down and headed for Moro Bay. Along the way we saw the beautiful golf courses (Cyprus Point and Pebble Beach). Next was Big Sur along with Hearst’s Castle.
After fueling in Moro Bay we were escorted by at least 100 dolphins in different pods. They loved surfing the Sea Ray’s wakes. We also spied 10-20 whales.
We hit some rough water near Point Conception/Vandenburg AFB when both the wind and currents changed.
Finally, instead of Ventura, we got a slip in Santa Barbara. I’ll have more details and pictures to follow.

Following this trip with envy.
How far is each leg/day by water
Looking at Google Maps seems like great distances with very little places to duck into if wind increases.
Pictures!

We made it to Long Beach today around 1:00 pm today after leaving Santa Barbara a little after 7:30 am. Plotter said the trip was 92 miles. The weather was perfect when we left for maybe the first hour, a little hazy. Then a 15 knot headwind came up to make things interesting and cleared out the haze. Right about the time we passed the Santa Monica/MDR area the wind died down and the Palos Verdes Peninsula came into clear view. We were low on fuel so we rounded the Peninsula and filled up in San Pedro. So from Moro Bay to San Pedro we burned 324 gallons, of the 400 gallon capacity. We crossed though the LA/Long Beach Harbor and made it over to Shoreline. My wife was there to greet us and assess the cleanliness of her boat.

Day 1 was 140 nautical miles from Isleton to Monterey. Day 2 was around 245 nautical miles and 14 hours. And again 105 NM for day 3. Total distance, 445 nautical miles (around 513 statute miles). With the van ride of 425 miles on Thursday night from Southern California to Isleton, we did some serious traveling.

Congrats! Sounds like a great trip. Our relocation this past week was only 90 miles. Makes me wish I had looked at boats up in Bay Area...

Enjoy...

I'm back in the office so I can post some pictures of the trip. Here is leaving Willow Berm Marina Friday Morning:
