I want to install a new chart plotter, which will require cutting a hole to fit in the panel. I do not see any access to the backside of the dash panel. I am thinking the best way to get to it is to remove the padded dash. I have located only one screw on this entire long piece. Is this thing held in by caulk? I hate to start prying on something without knowing how it’s held into place. Thank you.

I would not pry the padded dash. There has to be access from behind somewhere, if there aren't screws in the front holding the pannels on. Search around, somebody has run into it before.

My guess is xmas tree clips are holding it. That is what held the pads on our 420 and 500.

I will be down at my boat tomorrow and will take a look. I thought that padded trim was secured from the back side…..accessible from the cabin access panel.

Any chance there’s an access panel in the head behind it?

Thank you, I will be back on my boat this weekend. I appreciate any information and advice.

It is bolted on and the bolts are accessible via the cabin hatch behind the dash.

Thank you! You saved me a ton of frustration as that hatch has a screw on backing creating a nice storage space for things. Ours was full of kids toys, and I would never have looked there. I am learning more everyday thanks to the people here!

I want to add that to remove the gage panel, I had to remove the lower padded piece also. I found those bolts easy to access by removing the panel (pops off) below the steering wheel.

This whole project is to get behind the chart plotter, to replace it. Thanks again!
