I think you have the answer, but you don’t necessarily have to buy a big piece of starboard to cut a U. Yes this would be the cleanest way, but instead you can cut 3 straight pieces and attach to top and sides. Or, maybe I am not visualizing the issue correctly.

This is what we did for the cockpit fridge install on our 48DA a couple of years ago, and worked perfectly. I can't find a pic, but if you need one I can go down and take one for you.

I think everybody is on the same page. Basically make a 3 sided picture frame to clean it up. I’ll be ordering some material soon. Because I put a full “floor” underneath, it’s rock solid as is, but just need to give it a better finished look.
