Has anyone made the trek from Northern California to Southern California? Thinking of going from San Francisco to Long Beach over Labor Day weekend. My initial reviews ssys its about 450 miles. Thinking of doing the trip in four days. Any thoughts on this specific trip or other longer cruises?

Have read about it. Actually one time downloaded a west coast cruising guide.

From what I have read, no personal experience, can be a brutal trip.

It all depends on conditions, a marina neighbor just brought his 44DA up from down south and did it in 17 hours in conditions that were described as bathwater. What boat will you be making the passage with? From what I understand, the most brutal stretch and the one you need to time right is rounding Point Conception. Have a great trip and please post the experience. There are a few members on here that have done the trip and I am sure they will chime in.

contemplating the trip in a 2007 340. The more I read about it, the less confident I get, but I am going to continue research and plan. If we do it, I will definitely post about it!

Are you relocating the boat or making a round trip eventually? If relocating I would truck it unless I had no time constraints to make the trip.

I have made the trip several times. North and South.

I have never been able to plan a weekend. The trip was always done during good weather / sea conditions.

Monterey to Morro Bay will be your longest leg. Make sure you have the fuel with adequate reserves.

When the Pacific is like a bathtub (great description). It’s an amazing trip.

When things go the other way. It’s a beating.

If you decide to do this trip in that boat, plan your fuel stops at about 150 miles of less. That will keep a safe cushion in the tanks.

The fuel stop options are fairly limited once you leave the Bay. Monterey, Moro Bay, Santa Barbara. The tricky part is weather and sea conditions at Point Conception. August/September/October are usually good times to head south with the following sea.

That Point, my son lives walking distance from it. Santa Maria, nice area.
It’s a 15+ hour walk and 46 miles away.
