Hi guys

I'm a newby on here so hi to you all.
I have just bought a SR185 sport and it has a set of carpets but whatever the backing consists of is degrading badly.
It's a sort of black bitumen that has dried out which leaves black particles and dust all over.
The carpets are in very good condition and I would like to enquire if anyone has a remedy for this problem other than getting new carpets:(
Much obliged in anticipation of any replies.

You can try to loosen and remove as much of the old backing as possible from the back. Tape off the edges and paint over the backing with a heavy bed liner paint. Remove any snaps and replace or be careful and not paint them.

It may not be perfect but it may buy you a few years before needing to replace.

The bedliner in a spray can works great. three years in and not a single issue.

Thanks guys, Here in the Med I am limited to what I can get out here and the cost to ship from the states and pay the import/sales taxes would be mind blowing.
I am certainly going to give it a try to seal the backs. Out here I have found a product called Plasti Dip which forms like a vinyl cover, so I will order a rattle can of the product to do a test.

Do not use the plastidip! That stuff will get hot and melt your carpets to the deck. Then you will have that to deal with. Plus from my son, who knows everything, it peels and flakes bad.

Okay and thank you for the heads up and I will take your advice and look for an alternative.

Plasti Dip is like that Flexseal. Someone said to use that stuff. It sticks to the deck and is very hard to remove. It gets warm and then sticky.
