Seeking any recommendations for Westerbeke mechanic in the Tampa Bay area (with ability to pull a generator from a boat in the water preferably). The genny on our 1999 310DA has an intermittent oil leak. I have not used it enough to fully diagnose the issue since noticing the leak last spring. The origin is on the backside/transom side and I just can't get back there to see what's going on. Hopefully it is something simple. But, since nothing ever winds up simple for me, I am mentally preparing myself to pull the generator and have someone properly repair/rebuild it. My wife expects the air conditioner to work when we are at anchor...

No idea how the post's title got mangled but I can't seem to edit it....

Thanks!

Ben

Can you rig up a pole and use your cell phone to get a better look? Is the leak coming from the side that contains your oil filter?

Not the filter side.

now that I am attending to this I intend to do as you suggest, or a mirror on a stick…

I have a small bore scope camera which connects to iPad or iPhone. It will reach almost anywhere. Got it on Amazon for $30-50 I am thinking.

It can look inside walls and behind things pretty effectively. Might be a good investment.

Cheaper than pulling genset to determine oil leak.

Great idea on the endoscope. I had one a few years ago and it was crap. I'll check out the one you suggest.

I don't mean to imply I am going to pull the jenny just to find the leak. I worded my original post poorly. Asking for mechanic referrals in the Tampa area to prep for worst case...

Mirror on a stick showed it is coming from behind the exhaust manifold. But I can't tell if it is the valve cover seal that failed or if this is something more serious. Guess I'll find out this evening when I start taking the vale cover off (luckily I have a new valve cover seal just in case...). So maybe this will be something I can sort easily in the boat....
