I have a 1994 440 EXpress with 3116 CATS. Very seriius sooting problems primarily on port engine. Have tried everything I can think of to solve and involved 4 different mechanics (Two CAT ones). Everyone is shaking their heads. Only thing that I have been able to do to minimize the soot is to chnage the prop pitch. The sooting is better, but still not good. With the change in prop pitch my top speed is now 9 knts. I am reaching out here as I am running out of ideas. Replaced injectors twice, put in fuel seps, turbolators, setane booster and no chnage

Is this a new issue? How long have you owned the boat? 9 knts is crazy. What is max rpms? Has the bottom been looked at for fouling?

When was the last time the actercoolers were cleaned? The previous owner of my boat used a multi viscosity oil and the coolers were nasty. That contributed to my sooting.
