Tried and true NA V8 vs a turbo was all. All three were great trucks....I am looking for another Ram though, but that's a truck preference as I liked it better than the F150.

I will say the 2.7 was a great all around motor though...

My dream truck is the F250 w Godzilla motor. 7.3ci gasser.
Just to piss off the tree huggers. :D

I'll play...

'06 Ram 2500 Hemi...sold it when I move to a company ride...

'14 F150 3.5 EcoBoost...bought it when we switched from company provided to an allowance...

View attachment 137081

'16 F150 2.7 EcoBoost...bought it to get the panoramic moonroof and the new body style...(and the '14 hit 60k miles). My son got to pull the plastic off when she arrived.

'19 Ram 1500 Hemi...the '16 hit 60k miles...time for a new ride...

Sold it after switching back to a company car and was tired of watching her sit....barely broken in with 20k miles. By far, the '19 Ram was the favorite of the bunch and I'm very tempted to order another new one...

I'm back...

We bought a new place where a full size pickup can fit in the garage...so I just bought this '19 Limited. A twin to my '19 Laramie but a few more features...

Funny / not funny...we traded my '19 Ram (which I still have the window sticker - my name is on it)...for the Acadia...which we traded for the new to us '19 Ram...

Picked up this old ex US military CUCV square body last weekend to fix up for off grid adventuring. It's an '86 K30 that's in remarkable condition. Pretty plain as far as the options go, but it's all original with next to no traces of rust on the axels, frame or the body. A bit fugly at the moment but am sure some on here will appreciate it's beauty. My first 3 trucks were '73, '75 and '85 square bodies. Have a soft spot for them myself.
It originally had the diesel which was removed in 2003 and it's been in storage since then. It has the TH400 transmission, 208 transfer case with 4.56 axels. Was not able to test drive obviously, but it has extremely low mileage for it's age and all that could be tested/inspected, functioned smooth and tight as new.
I have to get it inspected to move the registration to Canada, so am going to concentrate on only that at this point. Will temporarily install the 5.7 marine Vortec I built last spring to get that done. After that, am planning on re-arcing the springs 3-4" and installing 35's. Will see how it responds with the 5.7 (tire/gear combo) at that point before deciding on a build for it.
Haven't decided on paint yet. Not a real fan of the Nato CLAC on it but understand it covers up nicely. Maybe go to one of the solid green colors for authenticity.
Pretty cool rig!

Beautiful pickup. Do yourself a favor and start looking for front and rear axels. They are a non standard from other Dana-Spicer gears and tubes. Same with driveline splines. IIRC Rockwel has some parts.

The 6.2l diesel that was swapped in, early in the years of the Detroit Diesel are something of a hens teeth. With parts manufacturers not making parts for those older blocks, has guys pulling them when they can find them and hiding them. The 350 diesel was just nothing but junk. The 350 gasser should be fine. A 400 would be better.

Double check the electrical system real good. Most were a 24 volt system.

Those pick ups are truly beasts.

My wife’s truck/suv…. This is her second one…. Great truck for towing…. No problem towing a 260 Sundeck even Tennessee mountains….. the problem is service and our completely incompetent dealer in Indy. It needed brakes….. so I called and told them brakes and rotors….. how much….. $4,000….. omg and 4 weeks to get it in….. I bought the parts pads and rotors for $480 and did it myself…. That pissed me off so much I traded it for a Lexus…… pick up the new one this Friday

Thanks. Really looking forward to getting into this project. I don't think it was driven much if at all since it went to the public. Odometer hasn't turned over and the powertrain shows it. I did pull visual oil samples from the transmission, transfer case and axels. They all looked like they were clean out of the jug. Will be dumping them all and having a closer inspection once I can make room in the shop.
No interest in going back to the diesel. I am hoping a modified 5.7 vortec will be plenty for it. I had an LT1 in my '73 K20 for several years. It went really well but my high testosterone level back then along with the price of fuel had me swap it out for a juiced up 454.
The seller thought this one may be 24v as well but the cables from dual batts appear to be hooked up parallel. Honestly didn't concern me too much. I was just stoked to find a truck of this generation that did not have someone chopping up the harnesses. I did notice a solenoid under the hood marked 12v so thinking that is what it is. If not, guess I'm tossing the fan and wiper motors, horn and some bulbs. Going to keep the dual batteries as am planning a strong puller in the front and possibly even the rear.
Before making the 800 mile journey to see it, I had him send me a pic of the RPO code list. Other than the Military spec'd ones, it was clear to me I needed to jump on it.

I don't know if I'd change the color of the truck. As a former GI I kinda like that camo blend.
Yes and I can respect that. I actually don't mind it myself. The CAC paint on it is tough and has done a nice job protecting the metal. If you look close at the first pic, it shows some polish to near bare metal above the front wheel well. There is some of that across the hood as well. It kind of looks to me like there might have been a tarp flapping on it for it's last trip by the previous owner. It was the reason I didn't cover it for it's last journey. Just not sure how it would look only touching up a few areas.
We do have a full spray booth at the shop. Will figure out what I'm doing over the next few months.
Appreciate the feed back.

I'm with GFC on that one. There's any amount of rednecks out there trying to make their trucks look like this, but you've got a real one. IMO, do what you can to preserve the originality of this rig.
