Boat Info
1987 Sea Ray 268. Covered slip
Engines
7.4 Mercruiser
I am in need of a trailer for my sea ray 268. I have a friend who has one his 24 foot Bayliner CC is on he will part with. It is a roller type trailer.
If the trailer is able to handle my weight would I ba able to use it? I'm sure I would have to adjust rollers ect. I am also wondering how much overhang is acceptable. I won't be towing much just from my slip to an area I can work on the drive ect.

If no answer here, seems most slip their boats, try The Hull Truth. Most of those guy are fishing CC trailer boaters. Probably get good trailer info over there.

What's currently on the trailer won't tell us, one way or the other, what the trailer is capable of.

What you'll have to look at is the carrying capacity of the trailer (not the gross rating) and compare that to what your boat weighs with the options/fuel/etc. Next will be the length of your boat from the bow eye to the transom and compare that with the adjustability of the trailer from the winch stand roller to the rear-most set of rollers.

Overhang? Generally, "none" is acceptable. For short periods of time, a small amount would be fine.

If the trailer is physically capable of holding the boat, you may very well have to adjust the axles as well.

The tag on the frame is worn to where you cant read cargo capacity. All i can see is that it is an ez loader. He wants 3k for it then there is the issue of the junk gayliner on it. I know of two recyclers on the east coast but none out by me. My marina wants $400.00 to pull my boat out on their trailer for one weeks time and launch it when I'm done.
For the price of the trailer I could use marina service 8 times for haul out.

Get the VIN number from your friend - either his original paperwork, title or registration card. Call EZ Loader.

I can get the vin and call them. He has no paperwork.

More than likely the axle placement for your bigger boat will be to far forward which will cause your boat to hang over the back of the trailer. The pivot point being to far forward will cause the transom to hit the road when tow vehicle goes over rises in the road.

Good point. I was hoping there was some kind of formula such as you have a boat X feet long you need a trailer Y feet long and adjust it from there. Trailer in question is 1000 lbs empty and has a gvwr of 10,000 lbs. EZ Loader does not keep records that far back to give me any info.

There is - see my first post.

1K empty weight (for a galvanized... or even aluminum) doesn't match up with a 10K gross weight. Either the empty weight is too low (by a lot) or the gross weight is too high (by a lot). That just seems WAY off.

Ok, I see the measurements, im going to go and measure the trailer this week. The 1000 and 10000 weights were taken from the trailers title my friend has.

Trailer's title... likely just flat out wrong. It could have initially (or somewhere along the lines) been inputed wrong when applying for a title (or a replacement title).

-- How many lugs?
-- How many leaves on the springs?
-- What's the load capacity on each tire?

Post a picture of the trailer.
