The Official 450 Express Bridge Owners Club

Here's a challenge, not addressed as yet since acquisition 3 yrs ago. Situation inherited from prev owner. Bow pulpit flush mounted anchor fixture is bent. Secondly, anchor jams and impacts the forward-most part of the opening. Anchor actually got stuck on very first use 3 yrs ago. I made a small bumper stop from aluminum tubing and two chair feet on the ends to place on the anchor for the last two inches of retracting it. This eliminated it getting stuck. Apparently prev owner bought a large Mantis anchor, but the pulpit opening is not sized to fit the arm of the anchor. Might a 65lb at least. One solution might be to move the entire fixture aft by a few inches. Another might be to install a SS plate at the point of impact under the pulpit. Thoughts?

Same issue. My boat had a Danforth on when we bought it. It fit perfect. Changed to a 45# Delta (works better for us) and it will get stuck and cause damage. I've just learned to stop right before it would get stuck.

Every model of this boat I have seen has a bent anchor roller bracket. Mine included. I used an 8' 2x4 wedged down to the roller (lower the anchor) to straighten it a bit, not perfect but much better. If you have the boat out of the water, you can also use the 2x4 method on the ground from the bottom up. Next haul out I'm going to try some clamps on the bracket to a 2x4 (or something similar) to see if I can make it almost perfect.

I'm also looking for repair solutions for the damage the anchor has caused, but as no one but me sees/notices it, it has not been a top priority.

We switched from a Delta which fit, but wouldn't stay put here on the emerald coast, to the Rocna Vulcan (incredible anchor). It doesn't fit exactly, but stops early on the way up, so all good.

One day, thinking of getting a custom one made. https://www.umtmarine.com/equipment/anchor-rollers/

Agree with LMBoat hadn't been a huge priority, probably because an expensive repair/fix. Yet, an annoyance. My little bump stop keeps anchor from getting stuck (bumber tied so i don't lose it) but I have damage beneath the pulpit too. Plus the bent SS just an annoyance. Could all be repaired if I pointed the boat bow first in slip. Finding the right guy to do would be the challenge. Above my pay grade for me! I like the website Forestkk, perhaps they could custom fabricate.

They say they do custom work, and seems as though you can send your old roller and tell them the anchor type and they will fab it up. Off season work for sure.

Two T's Aweigh here. Start out by saying we love our 2004 450 EB Sea Ray. We have owned it since 2019. And we completed a year long trip "The Great Loop" with her from October 2021 to October of 2022. No problems. About 7,000 miles including side trips to the Bahamas and Washington DC.

Today I need advise from the group. Having charging issues with both Port and STRB engine. When the boat is on Shore power both 8D batteries (1 year old) show around 13 volts. With Generator off and boat underway Port shows 12 volts and STRB shows 12.5 volts. I have checked all connection and used a multi meter to confirm no lost of voltage between Alternator and Batteries.
Does anyone know if there is a fuse or other thing to check?
Thanks in advance, Tommy

Off the cuff it looks like both of the engine alternators are not functioning. However, are there isolators on your boat?
Did you by chance / accident switch off the batteries with the engines running? That will take out an alternator.
On shore power or with the generator running (charger/converter on) do you see 13.5 to 14.2 volts on the batteries?

I have not found isolators if equipped as of yet. If someone knows of the location or if 2004 450 EB's were equipped with isolators that would be great?
Possible but, don't believe we switch off batteries with engines running.
Is there a way to check alternators, short of bench testing without removing from boat?
Currently on Shore Power batteries show right at 13.5 volts.

There may be a way to full field the alternator for voltage output, but a proper load and ripple test are really what is needed.
If you don't know the history of the alternator's, I highly recommend it.

Easy to check alternators. Turn off the AC charging and let the batteries relax for ten or so minutes (let the surface charge dissipate). Make sure all other boat systems are turned off as best as possible.
Put a DVM (digital volt meter) on one of the alternators (pos on Bat terminal and neg on alternator case).
Have someone start the engine while watching the DVM. You should see a voltage sag during cranking then after engine start voltage should increase to 14.2 or so volts. If you are not seeing any increase above battery voltage (12 or so volts) then either the alternator is bad or the field is not getting voltage. Do the same on the other engine.

Thank you,
Just tried the DVM (digital volt meter ) test on the STBD engine. (Alternator is inboard easies to get to) Was at 12.6 with engine off, and 12.6 with engine running regardless of RPM's (500-1800). Will be pulling both alternator and bring to shop to get tested.
Will let the group know what we find out. Hopefully know something before next weekend...
Thanks again for the advise, from the crew of "Two T's Aweigh".

Nice looking 450 near Savannah TN on the "Great Loop." I think our boats would be perfect to make the Loop with the slightly lower flybridge height needed to clear some of the bridges on the route.

Two T's Aweigh sailed 6,600 miles from Knoxville Tn. around The Loop with side trips to Bahamas and Washington DC. October 12, 2021 to October 13, 2022. Great trip and great boat for The Great Loop.

Impressive! Will you get a Great Loop flag?

Welcome to the group! I followed this couple who did the loop on their 44DB a couple of years ago: https://www.youtube.com/@tensevenfreedomretreat4882/videos
I want to say they did have a few issues where they had to take down or fold their radar dome to clear low bridges in the northeast. It looks like an amazing trip.
Any pictures of your boat? I had your HIN# listed on the first page of this thread from my USCG search. Would you be willing to share your Sea Ray internal number? Your boat, built in January of 2004 was one of the last 450EBs produced by Sea Ray. I only show two boats built after your boat in the known HIN numbers.
I'm looking for the lower number on your hull:

I'm going to boat this weekend. Send picture of HIN Number. Also, will send a few pictures of Two T's Aweigh... attached are a few.

@Tommy Osborne We're you able to to get under the bridges in Chicago?
