Tie downs for Dinghy

i agree with @FootballFan, and it the time it takes me to loosen all three of my turnbuckles is minimal. Additionally, I installed these handles on the quick release ring on the snap shackles you purchased (closest to the dinghy) to release them immediately in the event of an emergency.

One more thing...the cover has 2 functions. 1) It keeps the bolt heads from turning as you noted when in the closed position. 2) It acts as the wrench/handle to tighten/loosen when in the open position.

I thought about that….. ok ok I’m in…. I was hoping the handle thru a cam added the tension

Are you towing this all over? Or just to marina for summer
No taking it on weekends vacation etc…. But I do have a ramp/dock at the marina to park it…… It’s new this year with an aluminum bottom so looking forward to it

Thanks, Looking at same a few weeks ago. Still using two Chris crossed ratchet straps to the forward towing eyes and same on transom. I'll check to see if Soutco has anything close.

Another lesson I learned is to make sure that the bow and stern lines are NOT both vertical. One needs to have an angle which when tightened eliminates any side to side movement on a bounce.

Due to the way that my dinghy sits on my swim platform, I do not use the bow eye. I anchor the front to the toe connection point which is a foot behind the bow eye.

We are on the Sea Lift "Pop Up" Chalks. Slippery devils against the powder coated aluminum hull. I would need to asses weather or not I'm comfortable with one fastening point on the bow. With my sad knees these are good things to think about.

My Dring anchor point is right in line with the bow.... I cant see it going anywhere

I thought that...

You won't lose a dinghy, just will rub on the bottom in rough water. Even half inch of port to starboard movement.

What I was told was to not have both the bow and stern tie downs vertical. Have some angle, the more the better.

I have a good angle…. My davits/chocks are hinged in the v so they conform to the hull it’s not moving if held down

I used turnbuckles and snap shackles with t-handles to pull in case of emergency. I bought the turn buckles and snap shackles from West Marine. I used locking nuts on the stern 2 tie downs so that they don’t adjust and I use the bow turnbuckle to loosen and tighten the dingy when attacking it to the platform. The snap shackles allow for quick release in case of emergency because my intent is to use the dingy as my life raft. Here are a few pics of my setup.

So do you turn the turnbuckles by hand…. You don’t have a lot of room between the turnbuckle and the transom

The stern ones stay put. I push the dingy forward, snap those on and then slide it back to tighten them. The. Put the bow one on by hand and tighten a few turns with a stainless adjustable wrench that fits over the body of the turn buckle. Both stern and bow turnbuckles are angled back from the dingy eyes towards the swim platform to keep it from shifting fore and aft. Here is a few pics I found of the bow tie down.

Where did you get the red emergency pulls? I want some of those.

i also found a source for the C.S. Johnson Marine Handy Lock Turnbuckle. The last time I made them I spent a little time at my ACE Hardware back in the stainless cable area to make up the cables, and then finished them off with shrink tube. (let me know if you need any pics, and I can stop by the boat.)
Yes pics please... doing this for my new Highfield, I am done with ratchet straps.

@TNT8808 posted one link above…. They are pretty proud of them

West marine. They are rigging t-pulls for sail boats.
