Westerbeke Diesel Generator Glow Plug aftermarket equivalent

Update:

Unfortunately the NGK Y110 has similar dimensions to the 114T and as such doesnt get any better thread engagement.

Back to the drawing board...

The other best option on the the compatibility chart is a NGK Y709-R (or sometime referred to by #3238) Ordered one off Amazon, but this one is $26, still a savings but not as cheap as the other options.

I have not been able to locate a Champion CH152 glow plug anywhere (yet). Searching on the internet, seems others cant find them either, so maybe discontinued.

I think this Y-709R #3238 might be the best fit. Ill install later this week and see how it fits. Curious to know if I can replace 1 or if ill need to replace all 3 at once.

I used that website for the basic list. Follow that list and you find the Y709R/#3238.

Best I can tell the CH152 is no longer made. I've been all over the Champion website.

I'm not a diesel guy but I did find an old reference that shows NGK Y-145T. If the picture is correct ....the thread counts and shaft spaces look pretty close. I hope it helps.

I would say that’s a possibility as well. The biggest problem I have found is the pictures online are not accurate. I like the price better!

Availability might be an issue...

The NGK Y-709R seems to be the best fit. Works like a charm. FYI... Manual recommends it be installed with anti-seize coumpound.

Do you know longer have the boat with that generator in it? Mine takes a super long time to start but eventually does, I'm thinking maybe it's the glow plugs.
Its easy enough to check, pull them out, and put 12V across them. They get red hot in about 5 seconds.

My starting routine is:

1) Press and hold preheat button for 30 seconds
2) Still pressing pre heat try to start for 10 seconds
3) Wait 10 seconds
4) Repeats steps 2 and 3 3-4 more times
5) It starts

Something is off. On my 98 400 DA, you push the preheat and release, wait for the light to stop flashing then attempt to start. Mine sat all winter and started with about 5 seconds of cranking this spring. Before I swapped the controller, my procedure was similar to yours, very hard to start. Sometimes the relay can go bad, not always the controller. You should hear the lift pump clicking when it is pre-heating.

Generator fired right up today after about 10 seconds of trying, that was the first. I replaced the racor two weekends ago, first time starting it since then.
