I'm about to do an oil change, and will be using Mobil 1 oil. I've been using it in my cars for many years, with great results. I also use the Mobil 1 oil filters. Test results show they are top notch.

Anyone know of the exact Mobil 1 oil filter to use in a 5.7 Mercruiser?

Yes, I found in a search their recommended oil is of course their product, and down the list in order of preference is a multi-weight synthetic, like Mobil 1. I think 20w-50 would work in my climate. My boat is long out of warranty, by about 20 years, so I at least won't have to worry about voiding the warranty!

I've seen posts where guys use Rotella 15W40 HDEO, and have had good results with it.
That's what I'm going to try for my next oil change. Walmart sells it.

Just found this at the Mobil 1 site:

Question: Can 0W-40 be Used Instead of Straight Weight 40W?My boat engine requires straight weight 40W. Does the Mobil 1 0W-40 meet the requirement?-- William Knudsen, Wyandotte, MI

Answer: We make a 0W-40 AND a 10W-40 HIGH Mileage oil. Both products will provide SAE 40 grade viscometrics as the vehicle reaches operating temperature so you could use either product. We recommend you try using the Mobil1 High Mileage 10W-40 product. It can be used for new as well as older vehicles and would provide good protection for your boat engine.

What Scott mentioned about anti-corrosives above. It is your boat, use what you want. Others are suggesting Merc Oil for a reason. Unless Mobil1 is FC-W rated, I would not even think about dumping it in my engine regardless of what Mobil says on their Q&A Section.

Oil Ratings

"Ratings for engine oil for boat motors are given by the NMMA (National Marine Manufacturer's Association). To achieve the FC-W rating, the oil is laboratory-tested for viscosity, corrosion protection, filter plugging, foaming, and aeration. The oil must pass these tests to NMMA standards, including a 100-hour general performance engine test. ("FC-W" is a registered trademark of the NMMA). "

Thanks for that info, but to get back to my original question, concerning what Mobil 1 oil filter to use, I'll answer my own question. This is from the ********.com site, talking about the 5.0L engine. If the 5.7L engine uses the same filter, here are some equivalents, for those interested:

Mobil 1 = M1-111
Fram = PH6606
Mercruiser = 35-802885Q
QuickSilver = 14957
AC-Delco = PF1194

Also, according to one poster the Mobil 1 M1-111 will work also, and has an increased capacity, which is desirable for marine applications.

Iv'e been useing Dello400 straight 40 weight,it has the necessary anticorrosives and i havent experienced any problems with it.Also it was recomended by a marine mechanic and ex yard owner .
